What an unforgettable rally for the Rider. With the 105th Harley celebration, the numbers were definitely down, however – what an amazing rally! A lot of great music acts, the weather ranged from a lil' hot to impeccable, and the bottom line is ... if you weren't there, you'll never know what you missed! Both Spoke's were frequented by celebs all rally long. Bernstien the Drag Racer, several NASCAR drivers, Stephen Tyler and Kid Rock all chilled out at the Spokes!
At our Mother Ship, the downtown Spoke, we did some damn cool upgrades and the riders loved it. Bands like the Kentucky Headhunters, Jasmine Cain, and Toyz were dug by all! On Wednesday, the Biker Magazine Bike Show was a real hit! Ride in, old school kick ass bikes. The downtown Spoke has never looked better!
Out at the Broken Spoke Campground, we also rocked it big time! Our 30,000 sq. ft. Broken Spoke Saloon blew the riders' minds. A "Ride Through Bar" was such an unexpected treat! The girls that worked the Spoke were the hottest in Sturgis. The Cigar Roller intrigued his audience with his talent for rolling the finest of stogies. Let's not forget the Martini Bar on the 2nd and 3rd floors. We have 13 different types of martinis. A shot of Patron out of the belly button of a rock hard stomach, only to bite the lime out of the hottest full perched lips ... well I think you get the idea! All our bands were free and it really shocked the riders to see Marshall Tucker, Kentucky Headhunters, Pat Travers, Head East, Bouncing Souls, Aultimate Ozzy and more. By the way, the sound in our new Mega Spoke is killer! In the Limpnickie Lot at the front of the bar, something was always happening. Taber Nash put a posse of young hot up and coming builders together and integrated a monster half pipe and brought in some of the top skateboarders in the World. Oh! Did I mention Chica and Keino made their homes at our Broken Spoke Campground? I about pissed myself to walk out to our World's Largest Biker Pool to see Billy Lane, Scott Long, Russell Mitchell, Alan Lee, Roland Sands and other famous builders enjoying our pristine pool while being served by one of our 12 bikini models. Even Steven Tyler of Aerosmith dug hanging at the pool.
On a daily basis, we had campers pulling up stakes at Buffalo Chip and Glencoe to finish out the rally with us. What a compliment. All loved the clean shower houses, the view of Bear Butte, the pool and the Spoke, not to mention our events – The Michael Lichter Ride, The Cycle Source Ride, Baker Drivetrain Night, and S&S winding up its 50th year celebration doin' burnouts in the new Spoke to cap it off. Baker introduced "Corn Holeing" to the riders, giving away $1,000 in cash to the winners. It was damn cool to see Burt Baker give an 8 year old kid a 50 dollar bill for a winning toss. The Michael Lichter Ride was amazing! Michael not only photographed the famous guys like Sugar Bear, Chica, Keino, but sat backwards on a camera bike photographing relentlessly until every last rider was shot by the most famous motorcycle photographer in the world. We ended the day up on a 30,000 acre ranch with free food & drink for all! Don't miss the 2nd annual Michael Lichter ride in 2009! It was a homerun!
Another mandatory is the Cycle Source Ride! It was like the "Smokeout" colliding with the Wild Wild West! Hundreds and hundreds of bikes rolled out to a major cattle ranch north of Newell, SD, to Rodeo on bikes and horses! These two rides were talked up more than any events for Sturgis 2008! What's really cool - they were free and so were the killer burgers, dogs and beverages. My words can't express the great time had by all. It also gave riders the chance to putt with some of the most famous builders in the world and see we all have one thing in common – the love of the motorcycle!
Our goal for 2009 at the Broken Spoke Campground is 5,000 campers! We will provide the finest of amenities, hand pick our bands, provide lots of free events and select the hottest bartenders one can find. No details will be overlooked in order to throw the Ultimate Biker Party for Sturgis 2009. One thing is for sure, without our family of riders, there will be no party. So please look at our amenities – whether you reserve a huge 50-amp hook up, an air-conditioned cabin, or pitch a tent under the stars. No one will be more loyal and affordable than the Broken Spoke Campground!
Keep the Shiny Side Up and the Rubber Side Down!
