.....July 4, 2008

Well, we're getting a lot of submissions in the contest for names for this column/blog.   I liked the one Ernie and Patti Hill sent in. Becky Long ( a member of the talented "Mando Mamas") has sent in several good ones. I wonder if these folks have much of a life? I can't say what the suggestions were at this point, lest I be accused of influence peddling, however,  as I have stated during my long stint as author of the clues  for the KANZA  Days Treasure Hunt,  I can be bought.  I don't remember what the prize is to be, a big screen TV, or a new Prius? My friend H.T. Hittle has a new Prius Hybrid that he claims actually makes gasoline! (A free fill-up to the first ten callers.)

In a momentary lapse of  judgement, I agreed that our band would play on July 10 in  downtown Winfield at a fundraiser for Winfield Main Street.  Well, it turns out that part of the gig is playing for a "cakewalk".  You can imagine the derision I got when telling the band about this.  Gaye says at a cakewalk, when the music stops, a winner is declared....and as we never all stop at the same time, what will happen?.  Rex allowed that we could give out two or three cakes each time. Come and see what happens.

As you may know, we are working on our fourth CD.  We hope to have it ready by the time we go to Branson. We do our stuff at Greenjeans Studios in Wellington.  Carter Green is an engineer/musician extraordinaire. If you're doing a CD, you can't find a better place to do it. His system has a button on it that is labeled "add talent" that we use a lot.  Julie Sutton (you should have one of her CD's) uses Carter as does Ol' Muskie (they are a rock and roll group, but Carter is very tolerant of that genre also)

At our next practice, we are going to work on ending our songs at the same time.  What a concept!
