***UPTOWN INTERVIEW***
*Get Liqurd up!*
-Local drunk punks set to play free make-up gig
By Don Beat

"Liqurd has always been about fun, right from the beginning," says Boozefest/Grindfest festival organizer, Hammered Incorporated co-operator, lead gut-rot growler Chris Leskiw in-between sips at SOMA Café off Spence Street in the U of W.

"I think that's why people come and see us play. We promote Friday and Saturday night," continues Leskiw (ex-Amongst the Filth, Mung, F.T., Speed Demon, Jills, Brainstation). "We're drunk punk metal. That's what we are. That's what we've always been, that's what we always will be."

Liqurd's been at it for nigh on 10 years - there's no stopping this band.

"I've been in other bands, and I see people playing in 10 bands," Leskiw says. "Why play in 10 bands when you can focus and make one band great? The combination of Iko, Jordan and Peter in Liqurd is unprecedented."

U street beaters can check out what makes the great Liqurd quartet bubble and smack when Chris, guitarist Iko, bassist Jordan, and drummer Peter blitz off on songs such as Piss Off Bastard and Fuck Shitty Bunk Weed at their next gig. Best of all, it'free - yep, free Liqurd at The Zoo with the rough-age riffage of thrashsters Nailbrick, plus Krotch Rawket and Igor & The Skindiggers. Expect to be gill snoggered and ear clobbered!

Leskiw says the free gig is a make-up show of sorts. It's one for the fans because the last Liqurd show, at Ozzy's, was a total amp-blowing disasterthon.

"Aug. 29, 2008 - that's the day hell froze," Leskiw confirms with a matter o' fact chin scrunch. "It was bad after bad after bad after bad after bad after bad after bad after bad after bad.

"There was an awful turn of events. It seemed like there was a surge, and it blew (opening band) Fat Tooth's bass amp. Then Iko's guitar amp blew. Then we got another amp and that amp blew, too. We barely got to play two songs overall, it was horrible. It sucked the life right out of the show."

Leskiw says it helped that people from the club called him right away and offered Liqurd some make-up time.

"That's a real plus. I like playing there. The people that run the place are great and easy to work with," Leskiw says, noting that Hammered Inc. is presenting Grindfest at The Zoo featuring Psychotic Gardening, Of Human Bondage, Damascus and seven more on Oct. 3 and 4.

But right now, the free Liqurd show is the hell-firing focus.

"When I go out of the house at night, I want to have a good time," Leskiw explains. "I want to be happy and I want to have some fun. That's why we're doing this show for everyone for free."
