These three songs that we just posted are the first demos that Jim and I ever recorded back in August and September of 2005. I was working with Jim on string arrangements for the SYGC record at the time and things were going so well that we began to work on more songs that I had for the next record. That collaboration eventually grew into what is now Brighton MA. It was a difficult time in transition but one that saw the birth of many new songs—enough for two records--and new ideas for how to realize my songs.
Amateur Lovers was the very first song that we worked on and has taken time to develop with the band. We have held it off of our first album leaving it for our hopeful second and more conceptual record which will feature it as the title track.
This upcoming weekend, the 14th and 15th, we will be mixing our first record as Brighton MA. But it is these first songs that the band and our first self titled record have come from. Strangely, none of these three demoed songs, or this version of Graceland, will appear on our upcoming release. So we thought it would be interesting for you to hear these first demos and then the album that was to come from them.
