Jimmie Van Zant Band NEVER dissapoints.
Whether it be a solid Southern crowd down in Jacksonville or a full blown Country crowd like we had witnessed a little while back in a small country town called Schodack Landing neatly nestled up in the woods in the great state of New York. I said to myself how could the band pull this off but as soon as we got there we knew the band had them neatly held in the palm of their hands. It seemed that 90 per cent of the people had on a Jimmie Van Zant Band souveneir shirt, the only ones that didn't were the people that came from afar because ALL the locals gobbled them up. Some local bands opened up for Jimmie and they were very entertaining, a country band a Rolling Stones Band warmed up the crowd but when the Jimmie Van Zant Band hit the stage he had them under his magical mystery spell. From the opening notes of Thats how I Like it you knew you was seeing one of the best bands South of the Mason dixon Line that life has to offer. Like his Legendary Cousin Ronnie Vant Zant of Lynyrd Skynyrd fame the band carries Southern Rock Music to the next level. Blasting out tunes that would make any Jacksonville native proud like Traveling Man and Cry for the Bad Man PERFECTLY played. Than the band busts into some of their own music. 100 Proof was next followed by Ray Ray's Juke Joint and neatly rounded out by Redneck Revolution. Back to Skynyrd music he belts out Simple Man, Gimme 3 Steps, I know a Little, That Smell and Whats your Name. By this time you know you are in the right place if you love music. The band lays out a couple of their own tunes promoting the release of their new CD by playing Reason and a GREAT BALLAD dedicated to his lovely wife Zee called King of Nothing which in the song Jimmie professes that without his beatiful wife he would be the King of Nothing. If you are tenderhearted make sure you have plenty of Kleenex when the band starts to play this number, it will tug at your heartstrings and make you look at your significant other in a new light. A couple more Skynyrd tunes thrown in for good luck Gimme Back My Bullets and Double Trouble will definitely keep you under their spell. Now Jimmie turns to his other cousin Donnie and his band 38 Special and asks the crowd if they would like to hear some of their tunes as he blasts off a medley of 38's Greatist hits like Rockin into the Night, Hold on Loosely, Wild Eyed Southern boys and Caught Up In You. Then the Band gets back into some Skynyrd music by playing Down South Jukin, All I can do is Write about it, and Call me the Breeze. Now the best possible way for a band to end a concert is by doing 2 VERY FAMOUS songs, Sweet Home Alabama and Freebird. the band is in a whirlwind tour right now making stops all over the Country like a recent week they did in Nashville at FanFare which can be likened to Woodstock of the sixties but with a couple of million people in attendance. I know one of his shows is with the Marshall Tucker Band and we are all keeping our fingers, toes, and eyes crossed that Jimmie and his band get elected by Sixthman to be part of the Lynyrd Skynyrd Cruise next year along with 38 Special, Tucker Molly Hatchet and a host of other great bands. I know Jimmie would feel right at home with his two cousins Donnie and Johnny right along side him on the cruise. If you would like to see the Eight Wonder of the World go see the Jimmie Van Zant Band when they play in your neck of the woods, you will not be dissapointed
