Justin Salvato, the man who taught me how to fight, and taught me more about what it means to be a boxer. When I first met Justin, I was sixteen years old and very ambitious to the point of over confidence. I saw him hitting the heavy bag with technique that I had not seen before, that's when I knew the boxing class that he was running was the real deal. Justin can work with anyone if you let him, i have seen it. Girls that were more concerned about their nails than their jabs had skill after a few weeks of training. In addition, their cardio and physique changed dramatically for the better.
As for me, I was hooked from the get go. I started to feel more fluid as I trained. One of the guys I trained with said I threw a left hook like Sugar Shane Mosley (Ron Truman). That was all Justin's drilling of course and him coaching me through padwork saying things like: "Pick up the telephone" or "Don't drop your left hand... bad things happen when you drop your left hand" or "Don't hang that right, your gonna get popped."
I moved to Scranton from Honesdale and that made it difficult almost impossible for him to train me. It wasn't until September of 2008 that Justin started training me again. I forgot how hard his training is, but I remembered it when I was sucking wind for dear life.
I owe Justin my thanks, without him and some of the techniques and discipline I learned with him, I doubt I could have been as successful as I was in other sports such as wrestling or mixed martial arts. On top of that he was a good friend, he used to give me rides home so I didn't have to walk the five miles to my house. If you are looking for a trainer who will get you in shape and teach you how to box, Justin's your man.
