Chris Carson Speaks on Closing SCW
First and foremost, I would like to thank each and every person who supported Southern Championship Wrestling over the past 10 years. I've had the opportunity to meet some of my closest friends through SCW and for me it has always been about the SCW TEAM. The locker room assembled for each show always had that special feeling of closeness regardless of who was on the shows. For me, I sometimes I felt overwhelmed by the team effort . From the boys and their families to all the individuals whom are involved with production (photography, Sound, Lighting, Video, Media, and Ring) to the great people responsible for the event services.
Over the past year, I was faced with other challenges in my personal and professional life that began to sidetrack me from SCW and wrestling in general. My focus returned to my family and friends and wrapping up with a sixth year in political office. I literally burnt myself out and felt no desire to take part in a business in which duplication is the norm and SCW was following that same direction for me. More and more, I would find myself discussing memories from past years instead of ones that took place a week or show ago. This is when I knew my time was up, a feeling that I have nothing more to contribute to the wrestling business that makes no sense. To me, this business is supposed to be about what you make it as an individual...that desire was gone for me.
Please understand, this by far is one of the most difficult decisions of my life because SCW is a "true" passion of mine but now it is time for the next chapter of my life. I look forward to 2009 and to focus on maintaining all those great friendships and helping them with their challenges as they did with SCW. Honestly, as far as wrestling, it is difficult for myself to be a fan of today's product but for the individuals whom wrestled as part of Southern Championship Wrestling and that have moved on, this will be my opportunity to finally watch an SCW show.
I look forward to seeing everyone on the other side of the barricades sometime soon!
God Bless!
Chris Carson
SCW President
