Aren't you all tired of the news media's incessant drone of ...."Decision 2008" as a call to pay attention to the latest bit of dribble regarding Obama or McCain?  The only entertaining aspect seems to be John McCain's level to which he'll stoop to sling mud at Obama!  And the ultimate question is whether America is really ready to have a black president and a black family in the "white" house?  I realize that to focus on this is probably terribly politically incorrect, but what the hell, it's what's going on!  I think our elected officials, including the president, are simply projections of how we see ourselves, you know, kind and compassionate (Demo) or progressive big business (Rep). So, how does black factor into this big picture?  I think it's an easy projection for most democrats, but swing voters who "see" themselves as essentially republicans, have a lot of cognitive dissidence to overcome and may fall into the McCain camp, because it was too big a step for them to take.  Obama is taking the safe route in calling himself "An American", but this is not completely accurate.  He is a black man, with a black family, and how people "feel" about his being black will be an important issue!  The complete racists among us are not troubled by this dilemma, their response is simple; but, how about the rest of us?  I have no easy answers to this issue.  I was cared for by a black woman who was our nanny when I was a little boy, so have very fond and affectionate feelings towards people of color.  So my projection of black is kind, compassionate, and loving...but I think I'm a minority on this issue.  I invite you to reply and share your feelings!
