Current mood:  mellow

I have seen so many pictures of peoples sewing rooms/areas and they are always so neat and tidy! I do not have a sewing room..I have a sewing corner...and it is kinda cluttered..lol. I partially blame it on my fabric addiction and lack of space. I hate to get rid of fabric and cannot resist buying more. Someone please post a pic of your horribly cluttered and unorganized sewing area to make me feel better.

Here is mine....

I will admit, however, that I did put away a few small mountains of fabric before snapping this pic......

i like my new nook now, but i havent found a good way to put my ribbon up again like how we both have it. i had it hangin in my closet area, but not sure what im gonna do now, and i sure hate it stacked like that. i cant really tell what you did, any suggestions.. wait, is it hangin in a doorway, and is that a room divider underneath it? thats a good idea if so. i have a doorway that goes into my sleepin room that has no door, perhaps i can do that (that is after i am done bein prego cause that is where my maternity clothes are hangin!! :)

I wanna see your new nook!

My ribbons are hanging with hemp from my ceiling. There is a little lip on the ceiling (that hangs a bit lower than the actual ceiling) above my table that they are hung from. That is a room divider behind my table..but it is up against the wall. It is a really cool hand carved one that my uncle bought my parents in Saudi Arabia about 20 years ago. It weighs a ton but is cool because it has all these holes in the carvings that I can hang even more stuff from. lol

yes yes, it is in big big disaray right now cause of busyness of xmas gift makin, and still unpackin from the move (had to leave it to last and put the family first :) but yes yes i will put up a pix!!
we are so much alike- im all about the little places to hang more stuff!! i work better when there is tons of stuff around me- tools/notions that are easy to get to and art that is pleasing to the eye!! i say you work in here so its okay, the room is not supposed to look "pretty and clean"!! lol
by the way, i love the room divider, we have tons of antique fun stuff in my house- a lot of good stuff from the art nouveau era- my friend is a dealer-since she was 13- shes like 50+ now!!! woohoo!! free stuff!!

Ohhhh...nothing better than free cool antiques!! Wow!!

I am the same way..gotta be surrounded within arms reach of my 'tools'..rotary cutter, seam ripper...lol. Sure makes for easier sewing!

i do have to ask though, how do you keep your lil ones out, or off i shall say, of that area, or sticky hands off the fabrics? i have to have the door closed at all times!!

They are pretty good about it. It is in our living room  and I guess since it is such a part of our main living area, it is just the norm for them. The thing I have the most problem with is them leaving their toys on my sewing table..lol. They always leave things on my tables! Drives me nuts!

The sticky hands comment made me laugh. It seems like their hands are just perpetually sticky no matter how clean they are..lol! One thing I learned the hard way is to not leave the clothing I make on my dress form. They constantly go up to her (Stella) and hug her. One time my youngest did leave peanut butter on a dress I was working on. I had to totally cut it and change my design.. Thank goodness it wasn't for a custom order!

Well laides, I must say your pics have given me more ideas for how to better arrange a few things in my sewing room, which looks similar to both of yours, though I do not have as musch fabric :( I have read beofre that its much better to have everything out in the open easily seen for your creativity anyway, helps you better envision and visually picture things in your haed, such as a dress you are thinking up. SO really it wouldn't be good to have everything all tidy in drawers or hidden away somewhere!!

Oh I love the little kittie sleeping in the chair!! Soo cute, and you little blondie children are adorable as well! Love those curls!!

I wish I had enough room for my area to look like that... oh for that matter MY OWN HOUSE! Right now we are living with my man's mama so we can care for her. So, I have to mess up HER space. Luckily she is already a clutter bug so she does not mind my fabric sprawled everywhere. I actually think your room looks pretty tidy considering how much stuff you have into a small space.

Man!! Y'all are doing better than me I dont even have a sewing spot. I have some in about 3 different closets and my machine sits on my kitchen table most of the time, even though I have a beautiful sewing table. I always dream of becoming more organized, but just can't seem to make it happen. I too am addicted to fabric. AGH!!! I just can't stop LOL

Hey there fellow birthday sharer..............i have been meaning to post a pic for you............I had to wait til my nesting stage was over so it was presentable :  )  My room is in the main living area too, so I can keep an eye on the kiddos.  I have a great view of their swing set when I sew !!!  Of course though you cannot see what my laundry room looks like with loads and loads of fabric stacked everywhere :  )

Oh Cre, you are going to be disgusted by my sewing/craft room!!
It is in so much mess!!....I dare not let anyone in!!
I need to organise it more...you seem to do this so well...and have everything where you can see and find it!
no wonder your work is so lovely and neat!
The pixies always go in my room (even though I tell them not to)...to see what interesting tools and fabric they can find to cut up!!!
my lot are always covered in jam, marmite, and mud in the summer.....and now that the dog is shedding fluff clumps...there is hair all over everything....
What a lovely mess we all get in!

Yay....more pics! Thanks ladies for posting them! Moon, my area totally resembles yours most of the time..like I said, I folded and put stuff away before taking the pic. I am looking at my area now..and eeeekkk!!! lol SO unorganized! I have to do a organizing cleanup before each project or else my motivation goes out the window. I need it to be clear (somewhat) before I start so I can mess it all up again! PLUS it is the first thing you see when you walk in our house unfortunatly.

Red Willow~ I love that you can see in your backyard!! That is wonderful! I have to keep our front door open and every few minutes, peek out to make sure the kiddos are staying out of trouble.lol And your area is soooo folded and neat! I have the same rotary cutting board.

Moon, 2 dress forms!? hehe...you are lucky! Mine has seen better days..her name is Stella and she is horribly lopsided. Your room looks fun..I want to explore it!

Don't feel too bad, I don't have an official sewing room either...My oldest son claimed that room right after I set it up..Mine is my dining room and closets and my fabric is in my pantry of all places....I hope this makes u feel better....My lil sewing desk drawers are  overloaded and I seem unorganized......obviously...I need to really try to combine a small area with all my stuff......and at least have a less spread out "sewing corner"......

WOW I only wish I had a sewing room. Your set up is sooo nice. I love how you have all your thread like that. It must be great to have all your fabric color coordinated and out and able to see. I have my set up in my bedroom and all the stuff can be a little overwhelming sometimes. I'm hoping when I get some extra $ I can get some kind of shelves for my fabric. I have a bad addiction to keeping fabric and collecting it and I end up w/ a ton and no place to put it I just threw a bunch away and now I kind of wish I didn't but I know I'll have a ton again before I know it I also wanted to tell you I LOVE your work your one of the best I've ever seen. Keep up the great work mama

me too-no space,too much fabric.
I have my machines on a shelf in the kitchen,my stuff in rubbermaid bins in my closet and thread etc in drawers. I am praying that when we remodel and add on to our cottage, that the current attic can be converted into a sewing room for me. I don't care if there are beams running up the middle of it as long as I have space:)

okay well mine is still a work in progress! it went from sewing atop plastic bins, to hubby's workshop (which worked out great but kinds messy and oily), to a small corner of the laundry room atop a card table that wobbles horribly next to the water pipe....or is it the gas pipe...oh who knows???? Well, hubby dreams of the day we can build a place just for me. I am so lucky he even considers it....a lot of guys I know would say...just get rid of that stuff u never even use it!! hehe! Well, I must say now that my yarn is actually organized, I have actually made a few really nice things! I think th reason I don't do as much is because it is SUCH a pain to get it all out and actually work..by the time I get it out the kids trash something or need something to eat or want to go out. SO then forget it. But all these pics inspire me!!! Keep them coming! I love to check back and see more! I will post mine as soon as it is not next to the pipe! haha! Thanks, cre!!

ok I know I am coming in way late on this but, you are way more organized than you think...that is awesome compared to mine. Mine moves everytime I start a new project...you seem to always be inspired...mine comes in spurts. I just packed all my stuff back up, but somebody is giving me a sewing desk and chair and I have just created a soace for it. You have a huge collection. I have an addiction to fabric...if I find a deal, i cant resist...I may never use it, but at least I have the option. I will put a pic up when I unpack and set up a new spot. I cant stand to look at one thing for too long. It has been in the living room, the kitchen/dining area and is now moving up to the study....I am taking over the book shelves...the old man doesnt know it yet though. I love your work by the way.
