Oh my god.
Ok, so new record, right? I have been completely freaking out getting this thing done. I'm basically putting all my other projects on the backburner until the first week of October, when I need to hand this thing over to whoever is going to master it. I'll need to have the final master in my hands by Thanksgiving if I want to have it up on iTunes and eMusic by the end of January, which has been the objective since more than a year ago.
So what is this thing going to sound like? Well, it's shaping up to be between ten and twelve tracks, half-with-vocals, half instrumental. It's a record made up almost entirely of samples I have collected with my little handheld recorder, but I do use synths and drum machines wherever it's necessary to support the found sounds. It is definitely a melody-driven record, but I have a habit of cranking the beats to the point where the audio geeks write me to complain.
The aim is that the album will be a great big mess of bells and static and melody. Use of guitars will be bare-minimum. I needed to avoid falling back on the instrument I have always fallen back on with my solo recording stuff. There will probably be two tracks with guitar: one with a loop composed of guitar resonance noises but no plucking, and one with a sampler instrument that plays guitar harmonic sounds. Hopefully, this gives you an idea of the aesthetic I'm going after.
Anyway, I'm excited. I hope you are too. I'm also nervous as hell, which I hope you are not.
Best,
Mike
