With the death of Celia Cruz, there's an opening for a salsa diva with few candidates good enough to fill the bill. The new salsa diva will need to be more than just a great singer, she'll need to be an exceptional performer with a compelling repetoire.
It would be a real stretch to imagine a Peruvian singer fitting the bill, but there's no doubt that Cecilia Noel is a contender. Noel is someone you really need to see live in order to appreciate. It's not just the singing but the entire outrageous spicy package that reminds the audience of Cruz. But barring that opportunity, her new album A Gozar! might open your eyes to what hot salsa might look and sound like in the next decade
