Okay, if you've been paying any attention to the ultra-paranoid wingnut Rep. Michele Bachmann (R - Minn) or the late-night comedians who mock her, you've already heard that there are those on the right-wing fringe (also known as Republicans in good standing) who are objecting to the upcoming 2010 census as some sort of sinister left-wing plot.

A sinister left-wing plot mandated by Art. 1, Sec. 2 of that document of the radical left known as the U.S. Constitution.

Bachmann and others have announced their intention to boycott the census next year because...well, I'm a little unclear why, actually...apparently it has something to do with ACORN (the right's favorite villain after Obama and the Clintons). And they are urging others on the lunatic fringe to boycott it as well.

Now, personally, I'm actually okay with large numbers of people in the red states boycotting the census, because the net effect if they do is that they will lose further representation in the House of Representatives, resulting in additional representatives being apportioned to the blue states. Fewer Republicans in the HoR? Sounds good to me.

However, I do feel obligated to point out to Rep. Bachmann that she might want to be cautious in her public statements about her intentions with respect to the 2010 census.

See, she'll still be in office when it occurs (barring any revelations that she's been hiking the Appalachian Trail like Gov. Sanford of South Carolina). And when she was sworn in, part of her oath was to uphold the laws and constitution of the United States.

And the census is required by both the laws and the constitution. As is participation in same.

Now, I've been known to criticize unjust laws and even engage in a little civil disobedience from time-to-time, in spite of my own oath to uphold the laws and constitution back when I was practicing law.

On the other hand, this blog (seen by literally tens of readers) is about as high-profile as my own comments ever get. Nobody is pointing a microphone or a television camera at me.

Of course, they'd have to find me first, but that's beside the point.

The point is, if Bachmann refuses to participate in the census, well, she's pretty much giving a road-map to anyone who might be inclined to make an example of her by prosecuting or impeaching her for her refusal to participate every time she opens her mouth in front of a TV camera and announces her intent to boycott the census.

Just sayin'...

I am so tired of her. I'm tired of the ACORN myth. Just yesterday the head of the RNC claimed we stole the election in 2008 and ACORN helped us do it. He conveniently ignores the fact that the voting machines are manufactured by republican owned companies who often refuse to have the machines audited. So how exactly would we rig any election? Why is it that nearly every malfunctioning voting machine switches votes in favor of the republican candidates? It's just more projection from the people who brazenly attempt to tamper with our elections each year with phone jamming, voter roll purging, faulty machines, voter ID legislation, propaganda, phony political fliers, illegal robo calls, and outright lying to voters.

Saner republicans even tried to talk some sense into Bachmann about the census this week, but she wouldn't have any of it. The women is certifiably insane. All these wingnuts are. Sane people don't ignore evidence that they're wrong.

So let's call her Cleopatra - clearly, she's the Queen of Denial. (Okay, I admit, that was dreadful.)

The thing is, Republicans - at least the ones in DC - seem to be proponents of the Big Lie - if you repeat it often enough and loudly enough, people will believe you, despite all evidence to the contrary. And some people will. My mom believes Obama is a Muslim born in Kenya. My father thinks climate change is a myth. My brother is convinced that Obama is a socialist, instead of the relatively conservative Democrat that he is. They all get their news from Fox News, which they believe is fair and balanced, and questionable e-mails that their friends forward to them. They probably also think Stephen Colbert is really a conservative. I'm afraid to ask, though, as I really don't want to know if they're that delusional.

Oh I love the Birther nonsense. I'd like any of these fools to try and get their hands on their original birth certificates. See how far they get. What's Obama supposed to do, order Hawaii to give him his original, and then what? Fly around the country showing it off? The Birthers will just claim it's a forgery.

If Obama is a socialist, then I'm a billionaire.

I believe that if a real progressive became president, there would be a literal exploding of heads among the wingnuts. Look how crazy they get with a conservadem in the White House.

I took a Facebook friend to task yesterday for posting some birther propaganda. She doesn't really follow politics, so she believes shit like that. So I posted a link to a copy of Obama's birth certificate, then explained that the people behind the movement are trying to sow distrust, and counted on people not to bother trying to verify their ridiculous claims. Then I pointed out that a judge had already rejected the birther argument in an actual court case as ridiculous.

For a follow up act, I responded to another Facebook friend who'd posted a bumper sticker she found amusing (Vote Democrat: it's easier than working) with the text from the original 1988-era bumper sticker (Vote Republican: it's easier than thinking). That friend got pissy until I pointed out she couldn't expect to post crap like that and not get a response in kind when she has friends as liberal as I am.

Am I evil? Maybe. Do I care? Not really...

Well these people need the pushback. They think they're in the majority. They don't understand how extremist they are.

I love how these guys fail to understand that the greatest war on earth was won on the Democrats watch. From the bumper sticker I thought of this, because the favorite myth on the right is that democrats are weak and lazy.

Oh yeah, you never sent me a facebook friend request!

Ooh, also pointed out that even if Obama *had* been born in Kenya, he would still be a natural-born U.S. citizen because his mother was. Sort of like how McCain was considered one even though he was born in Panama. :-)

Exactly. If Obama isn't a citizen than neither is McCain.
