It's Dagger 2.0

The new issue - #6 to be exact - will be out this First Friday of May, 2009.  It's been roughly a year since the magazine started and I understand the novelty has worn off a bit.  People are accustomed to it.  When we began, it was time for a print magazine in a digital age, but people get tired of the same old thing.  It's human nature.  And so, It's Dagger must constantly change.

In addition, as the Editor it's not my only job to run this non-profit magazine.  I work full time, have a family, write for a local newspaper, and write short stories/novels which I am working on publishing.  I have neither the funds to run It's Dagger on my own nor the time to go door to door scaring up advertisement money.  Heck, I don't have the time to get in touch with people who promise to contribute money, articles, photos, art, etc.  I don't have time to always scan, spell check, create art, write articles, and all the duties of an editor - which is pretty bad because that's my job as the editor.  But, see, running a magazine that doesn't bring in enough money to afford me to quit my job, I just don't have the time to dedicate to It's Dagger as I'd like.

Begun as a means of catharsis and a pleasurable pursuit, in many ways It's Dagger has turned into a job itself, even after reinventing the magazine earlier in the year to make a better flowing magazine with an awesome website (which I don't keep up with enough).

So once again, I am revamping some minor details of It's Dagger.

First and foremost, the layout of the magazine will stay the same.  But, instead of coming out every 2 months, It's Dagger will now come out whenever there is enough stuff to fill a magazine.  So, maybe every 2 months, maybe every 3 or 4.  When I have enough, I'll print it.  I think people get lazy and complacent, and I am totally understanding of that since I am guilty too.  It's easy to say that It's Dagger is there and I'll contribute later.  But lately, I've been hurrying to fill blank spots in the magazine, and I think that takes away from the enjoyment of it.  So, I'll publish when I have a full issue.  And if I never have another one or it dies on the vine, so be it.  I don't want that, but I'm not gonna kill myself over it either.

Second and just as important is the website.  www.itsdagger.8k.com will be a new focus of mine, trying to keep it updated more frequently.  I'd also like to start helping local and regional bands, and one way would be for these bands to host a song on the site, for people to listen to.  So, in the future, tune in to the website for new stuff.  Also, It's Dagger can still be found with various blogs on www.p3community.com as well as MySpace and Facebook.  The e-mail address is still itsdagger@hotmail.com.

As for myself, keep track of me through the above sites, or the local newspaper's music column.  I'm working on becoming a published author this year and I may be creating a local self-published comic book in the near future too.  I will need the assistance of artists and models the characters are to be based on.  More in the future on that.
