Current mood:  hopeful

Gotta love E-bay

Back in the early 1980's when we were getting our musical shit together, I had a Pannosonic cassette boom box that I always used to record our rehersals and gigs with. For the band and many of our friends, the music that was recorded on what we called "the box" became the offcial sound of early Nixon's Head. What made the box so magical was that it would never distort, no matter how loud we played. Plus it always got a real warm tone to whatever we taped.

Well, all good things come to an end, and much like the other Nixon's Head icons (See future post on Jim's trusted acoustic guitar "old reliable"). The box eventually broke down by the late 80's. A second, newer, boom box "the box II" never recorded well and band members started bringing their own personal recording devices.

Startting a few years ago, I would occasionally check e-bay to see if I could find another "the box". Well, I finally found one this week and received it yesterday. While not an exact match, it is very close. I am looking forward to our first rehersal to see if it recaptures the sound. I am very hopeful!
