WELCOME AND HELLO, Fancy People!!
We’ve been busy bunnies lately with our EP
launch and finishing the video for Gypsy Eyes. We had
great fun making it, We hope you like
it!
We had the official launch of the single and video on the 11th of May at the legendary Ronnie
Scott’s Jazz Club. It was a massive success and the turnout was amazing : We had reached the maximum capacity of the venue by 8"00 pm! Huge thanks of course to those who came along to
support us – and those who were at Ronnie Scott’s and weren’t
quite expecting what they got!
However, rather than rattle on about ourselves,
we thought we’d let you know how the Gypsy Eyes night went through the eyes of a
guest:
Hello everyone,
Had such a fantastic time last night, so I thought I'd put pen to paper .. or
similar.
After a heavy schedule at home, it was time for some fun and relaxation. Where
better than to see The Fancy Toys at Ronnie Scott's. Their fabulous tunes had
been cavorting around my head for some time, so it was good to be able to get
to see them at last.
The Fancy Toys are no disappointment or yer average gig. Oh no, they put on a
show. Always creative and interesting, their launch of Gypsy Eyes (The Fancy
Toys EP) was one to remember.
I waited with interest as mascot Maurice the Monkey was positioned at the front
of the stage for the first set. Then Mickael and James appeared, with various
musical contraptions - not least, a horn-playing bass man who is also a bit hot
on the piano.
Starting off with Gypsy Eyes (how could anyone not sing along?) to rapturous
applause, they continued with Immoral, a fine jazzy number. Did they do Flower
Child next? I can't remember. I think some kind gentleman presented me with
half a bottle of red wine and a fresh glass. It definitely had the makings of a
good evening. Oh, then it was the break. So soon? Doesn't time fly when you're
having fun.
However, The Fancy Toys, the perfect hosts for my evening, had arranged interim
entertainment. The fabulous Anke, fully attired in top hat and fishnets,
treated us to a few songs a la Marlene Dietrich. Rock n roll, girl .. few
more sips of red fuel and The FT's were back .. and it was getting jam packed -
folks were queueing in the street now! Did they know about the burlesque
dancers, I wonder? Oh yes, two creative and lovely artistes who mesmerised us.
Feathers, veils, little else and all that biz.
More musical magic and gadgetry from the boys (was that a Woolies toy train as
a shaker, James, or was the vino getting me off the rails?)- cracking on with
their Fancy Toys number, and they'd also been joined by a lovely girlie on
percussion. Mickael slowed the tempo and put real emotion into Claire Obscure,
then we were rollicking back into a full-on finale of Gypsy Eyes. Mickael has a
fabulous range and sings beautifully.
The new, limited edition EP, with 5 (yes FIVE) fabulous tracks, was getting
snapped up while I finished my plonk. Sadly, it was time to get home (via
somewhere to eat, as we hadnt done that small thing and could have eaten
Maurice).
So, I can only say that if you're hungry .. for decent sounds, great
night out, visual stimulation, memorable songs .. .. get to The Fancy Toys'
site, grab the menu .. and order yourself a feast.
Keep It Live out there,
Genie
