Yes, 'Sir,' Teresa's rendition is a real Lulu
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- If you're a regular listener of
WHLI Radio 1100 AM on Long Island, you're no doubt
familiar with the music of Eltingville songstylist/musician
Teresa Figgiani Poidomani.
Her reprise of 1967's "To Sir With Love,"
"I Just Fall in Love Again" and "You're
My Everything" -- Teresa duets with her brother Joey --
are at the top of Teresa's repertoire.
Many will recall that "To Sir With Love" was the
theme from the eponymous British film starring Sidney
Poitier that dealt with social and racial issues in an
inner-city school. Sung by Lulu, it reached No. 1 on the
U.S. pop charts. The Angelo Venuto dance mix of "To Sir
With Love" is No. 18 on the Internet music chart out of
thousands of songs and was played on a radio show in Great
Britain.
Teresa, who doubles as a teacher of drums and percussion,
says that after "To Sir With Love," she thought
long and hard about future recordings. Given her good
fortune in working on the new dance mix with talented
singer/musician Venuto -- who has prospered since his hit
songs "Sweet Caroline" & "L'Italiano
-- she remembered "I Just Fall in Love Again," the
melodic tune recorded by Anne Murray in the 1970s. Teresa
points out that she plays the drums on that track and helped
co-produce it with the multitalented Jeremias Antonetty.
Working with Jeremias was an amazing experience, says she.
She then she recorded a tune with her brother Joey, a
vocalist/musician/songwriter who lives in Illinois -- who
joined her in a couple of bands over the years but whom she
never had the opportunity to record with professionally --
until now, that is!
"He came home from Illinois for a short visit and I
got him in the studio to record 'You're My
Everything,' by Santa Esmeralda, with me," says
Teresa, who adds that she chose that song because she
thought it would make a great duet and it hasn't been
recorded like that in the past. Both songs are now in
rotation on WHLI -- the same station that has been playing
Joey's reprise of Elvis' "Don't Ask Me
Why," which he recorded with Elvis' original
backup singers, The Jordanaires.
Asked what's next on her agenda, Teresa tells us
she'll be Arzuk Artist of the week on myspace.

Folks also may have seen Teresa perform along with Tommy
LaRocca -- "Tommy and Teresa" are a distinctive
entertainment/party band who've played at venues
throughout the metropolitan area.
..
Teresa's parents, Helen and Paul Figgiani, and her
husband, Joseph, are just several of her greatest fans. And
daughters Cheyenne, 10 and Melody, 3, are singing her songs,
which is the biggest compliment, Teresa adds.
And it seems as though the apple doesn't fall far from
the tree. Cheyenne sang in her fourth-grade talent show at
PS 55, Eltingville, and now plays the drums in her school
band.
