Born in a coastal town on the South China Sea in the Philippines in 1985, Aram Luc Blassingame (Bass & Treble) was born into a multicultural family. His father from the Lower East Side of Manhattan and his mother coming from a small city in Western Visayas. From early on it was clear he had a true passion for creation. Music was always audible in every corner of the house. At the time, His parent's owned a well known hotel/restaurant/bar frequented by many foreigners. Parties, live bands and entertainment were all very common and gave him a great deal of inspiration that he still carries with him to this day.
In 1991, the second largest volcano eruption of the century occurred, hurtling more than 2.5 cubic miles of debris over 20 miles into the sky blackening the visible sun in the area for days and lowering the global temperature that year as much as 2 degrees. Mt. Pinatubo was a mere half hour drive from his home causing 6 inches of volcanic ash to cover anything exposed to the open sky. Needless to say, it was an epic moment in time, and was the backdrop for his emigration to New York a few weeks following the eruption.
Digging through his parent's cassette tapes that had been collected over the years, he found great interest in his father's African Afrobeat tapes he had amassed while in Liberia, as well as all the old Funky Soul, Motown, and Jazz records from the 60's and 70's. Drawing from his mother's taste, he found liberation in the sounds of classical masterpieces but equally important, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Queen, and David Bowie. Shortly thereafter, he started playing saxophone followed by guitar and upright bass, playing in a Jazz Ensemble and Orchestra by the age of 12.
In Aug 2004, Aram had relocated to Orlando, FL. While attending University he began frequenting the dance parties off of Orange Ave at I-Bar, The Social, Backbooth, BBQ Bar, and AKA Lounge. It was then he was exposed the, sweaty, hi-energy, packed out, overall great time, indie/electro dance parties and was 100% sold. He then went to work on fine tuning his DJ skills, creating and playing more club and dance oriented tracks. During the period of time following, he started DJing clubs and parties in Orlando and South Florida. In late 2006, he was back in forth between NY and Florida and had joined hometown friend Gerald Lokerby in an experimental grindcore outfit dubbed Hasafininsteadoflegs, signing up to play guitar, synth and go on to record and produce their only release, a 7 song EP.
2007 marked the beginning of a new chapter, once again he grew restless and wanted a change of scenery. A cross country trip followed and almost 2000 miles later a new home base was made out of Las Vegas. Since his arrival over 2 years ago, He's established himself as a noteworthy contemporary. Bass & Treble was formed in the later part of '07 with Las Vegas native, Grayson Moffet. This incarnation of B&T was only for a brief period of time as Grayson had other obligations and Aram assumed all duties for the project. He's managed to DJ at several of Las Vegas's premier hot spots as well several parties in San Diego, Los Angeles, and Phoenix. Currently he is also involved in the band Gold Fronts sharing writing and production duties with Jose Torres.
"Test Area", Bass & Treble's forthcoming EP is set for release in early July and will include 6 original songs ranging from loud synth driven electro to feel good bass grooves and analog soundscapes. Don't be fooled, although a fair percentage of the music is synthesized, an integral amount is quite organic. Guitars, bass, and percussion play a big part, although it might not always seem that way. The focus is to create music that will be suitable for any positive environment, even transcending the dance floor. A few guest appearances are in the mix also so keep your ears tuned as "Test Area," will prove to be an essential piece to any Tastemaker's collection.
