It's been very exciting the last few weeks and I've spent soooo much time away from home. I thought I'd pop in and give a brief update. It started when I got lost after watching ZOMBIELAND for the second time. That movie was quite possibly the most fun undead movie I have ever seen!!!
Then I found myself at the legendary, Sleepy Hollow cemetery way after dark taking a guided lantern tour. It was so creepy and so cool. So many famous people chose that special place for their final slumber. Every time I go there I see something different. Plus, if you've never been to the town of Sleepy Hollow during October, you are missing Legend Weekends. I was able to visit Phillipsburg Manor in the evening. That's a beautiful working farm across the street from the cemetery. You can tour it during the day and visit with the animals and learn about the history (some of which may be surprising). Only during Legends Weekend it was a family friendly spooktacular with story telling witches, a sing songy pirate and appearances by the Headless Horseman.
Also over that weekend I visited Sunnyside, the home of the late author, Washington Irving. The tour was especially this time because I was there with friends and Halloween time is always special in the Hudson Valley. Not to be out done, there was the Blaze at the VanCourtland Manor, 5600 jack-o-lanterns were displayed in all kinds of amazing ways. It was incredible walking through the night viewing jack-o-lantern sculptures from tree-hanging bats to a giant spider.
Also while on my adventure, I was introduced to the Bell Witch and her infamous story. According to legend, when the Bell family moved to a farm in Tennessee (not far from where I live today), they were haunted by a speaking, torturing, psychic specter. The ghost allegedly ended her reign of terror by killing the Bell patriarch.
And truly that was just the beginning of this wild, wild time. After tracking back and forth from TN to NY, I made the track to Oklahoma City, OK with my wife (who was also with me during all of the above.) There we were thankful to see The Legend of Sleepy Hollow performed by the Oklahoma City Ballet. It was an amazing thing to behold. I highly recommend seeing a ballet on a topic you're interested in at least once in your life. I would definitely do it again.
Prier to seeing that beautiful ballet, we visited the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville where comedian, John Bowman brought down the house opening for one of the best comics ever, Lewis Black. These two were worth twice as much as the ticket price, as long as you don't mind hearing several dozen f-bombs. They were both hilarious and the show ended with a standing ovation.
Finally there was the concert. KISS played the Sommet Center on their Sonic Boom tour with Buckcherry. It was a great show, as always. So the wildness of fall continues into winter. Hopefully, as some point I will have the chance to breath.
What have you been up to?
