OCTOBER - BIG MONTH FOR RUSH FANS IN GLASGOW / LANARKSHIRE
Usually when a band splits it means disappointment for their dedicated following, however when RUSH tribute act Tom Sawyer split last year, it meant the formation of 2 new RUSH tribute acts.
Bass player / vocalist, Steve Turnbull and drummer Alan Craig, recruited new guitarist Matt Hutton and continued under the SAWYER monicker, while original guitarist Ian Butters recruited bass player / vocalist Conal Duffy and drummer, Rick Hughes and continued under the RUSH-UK banner.
Although many people think that
original music in the Scottish Rock Music scene has been smothered by a
multitude of "tribute" acts, everyone will agree that a RUSH tribute is
a different kettle of fish altogether and demands a level of skill and
concentration well beyond the standard rock tribs. It's a well known
fact that there are now nearly 100 Pink Floyd tribute acts currently
active in the UK while there are only around half a dozen RUSH tribs.
This is nothing to do with popularity of the respective acts but to do
with the level of skill and commitment demanded to play the necessary
complex pieces.
Both
outfits hit the road in October and if you consider yourself even a
casual RUSH fan you should be ashamed of yourself if you miss any of
the 3 gigs.
