How does a bank get away with overcharging its customers that have gone overdrawn over £100 a time?! This week I made an online purchase on this account by mistake (I bank with the co op but due to having an un paid off overdraft I still have to keep this account open and this deal with the bastards every so often.) I corrected the mistake within 5 working days, for being £150 overdrawn for 5 days I was fined…. £120?!

No wonder they’re one of the only bank posting large profits, they get them from exploiting their customers. All in the while the government sits on a judgement that says they are over charging but freezes it because it knows how much the banks are going to have to pay out. Protect the wankers who gambled away the interest they earnt from over charging customers, but don’t worry there are schemes in place for people like me situations like this, its called the TS scheme. Tough shit.

I HATE Hsbc more than any other company I have ever dealt with, the make me so angry I feel sick. If they want this money I will have it ready in pennies at my house, but they’ve got to come and get it first.

Totally agree Sam. These kinds of 'institutions' are absolutely stripping the common man and building up vast empires of money which are partly paid to the greedy CEOs and partly gambled away in a futile attempt to make even more profits for themselves.
The amounts these banks charge in fines is still urusious and they still dont play fair - but the good 'ole taxpayer will come to the rescue in times of trouble as the government hands over our hard earned cash in bailouts.
When you say you hate the company... that company is run by people who answer to the fat cats at the top of the food chain. Those said fat cats ultimately make the rules. Those same fat cats are the ones that are pocketing a high portion of your £120 fine to add to their own private millions - that is the thing that makes me sick. Afterall, NOBODY needs anywhere near £1million to live their life - let alone £20million or even £1billion. Thats what really makes me sick.
Some might say HSBC is a business and needs to make profits but that would be wrong. For years now banks have got away with doing just whatever they want. If times are hard for the banks then why not strip a few million from the pay packets of the execs to help out. No way - strip the pockets of the people... and when that is done... strip the lining out of their pockets... and then some.
Sam, this mugging by HSBC is an outrage - I support you fully.
Rant over. ;-)
Graham

HSBC may be the wost offenders, but banks in general have ridiculous overdraft fees. i was charged £90 for going £11.50 overdrawn last september and that was with Halifax..

But i suppose there's no way to write a swear word into their name for a snappy blog title... oh wait what about "Halif**ks"..

Barclays are just the same.
Even for a tiny amount overdrawn, they take 10 times more.

Its how they make their millions i guess, but its rather unfair.

check out my blogs i had the same problem with barclays a few years ago, why do they think they can charge you for taking extra money out?....surely if they dont like it, then dont let you take it out in the first place.

im sure like me, you didnt ask for an overdraft.

Btw new demos sound promising, looking forward to your next release

there are so many companies out there who think they can do whatever the hell they want to do because no one will stop them. Ultimately, we have the power as the consumer - but its making the masses aware of what they might have to put up with. At the moment, people are made aware slightly faster than in the past through word of mouth on the net, but i was thinking today - why doesn't someone start a site where we can rate our experiences with all companies and give people warning before it happens to them, it could even be used as a head to take down companies which are acting particularly unethical; kind of a consumers union - try and get all members of the site to completely boycott the offenders - just an idea if anyone has some spare time :-)

i've just taken HSBC to the financial ombudsman for stitching me up royally. they've offered me a about £300 in compensation but it doesn't even touch the amount they've basically nicked off me! Hmmmm, considering taking the b*stards to court! gosh, we are a jolly bunch aren't we?!

Haha, I have written a very, very similar blog on my personal page. They are the absolute scumdogs of the universe. They'll get theirs though, come the glorious day. Blindfold, last fag; goodnight HSBC.

completely know where you're coming from, i used to work for lloyds tsb - in the collections dept (soul sucking job, but it payed the bills & don't get me ranting on them)

i got the sack because i wasn't following by their bullying tactics, fair enough. i get my last wage (and as you work for lloyds you had to have a lloyds account for your wages) so i withdrew the funds and put those into my natwest student account. i then planned on leaving the lloyds account completely...this was last august. march this year i got a call from the same department i used to work in, saying i'm £950 overdrawn, of course this was absurd to me, i enquired what had happened. they'd over paid me £160 and had withdrew it from the account (without funds being in there OR my consent) and then i've been getting charges of around £100 a month due to this, i open handly admitted to pay the £160 i owed, but no that wasn't good enough. so now my credit score is a mess :) it's a good job i pay for cash for all my studio purchases :) and do not need to get credit for.

so yeah, down with banks. natwest on the other hand - nothing but good service, if i go overdrawn they do not charge me which i like.

so there's my story, it's a joke that this court case still hasn't been decided on the fairness of these bank charges. and our money being dished out as to save these banks makes matters even worse, when will it all end?

somethings going to happen soon and i think the people who "run" this country are going to be in shock about it.

This is an issue that makes my blood boil!! HSBC have taken £6500 from myself and my partner in the last 5 years - thats 6 months income for us!! how is anyone supposed to get out of debt when every spare bit of cash can just be taken from you.  we've put a claim in for our charges but all waiting on the courts.

the sad thing is we cant even change banks because we have an overdraft (made up almost entirely of charges!) that will take us years to clear, and our credit rating is shot to bits.  i would love to move to a more ethical bank but no chance.

its a win-win situation for them really!!

anyway, rant over, love the new demos xxx
