Who Gives Kudos:

Friday, July 17, 2009
Hi

Hope you're all keeping well. I've somehow managed to emerge from the rabbit hole of the studio (where I've been buried away working on some new tunes) to let you know about a big (I'd like to use the word exciting but it's maybe the wrong choice) weekend.

It kicks off tonight at the isis in oxford.

Dark Mountain Project Manifesto Launch

You might have heard me talk about an author called Paul Kingsnorth. Paul is one of my favourite authors, he wrote a book called "One No Many Yeses," that was a big inspiration to me. The best way to describe it was a travel diary come call to arms, that managed to tackle the difficult subject of international social change, in a way that was both personable and challenging. He then managed to do the same in his new book Real England, but this time on the subject of locality and community. He has founded a new project called the Dark Mountain Project which calls out outdated left ideologies and establishes the need for radical solutions in a changing landscape. The manifesto of the movement launches tonight and I am extremely proud to be involved.

I will be joined (I will be playing acoustically) by the following:

Chris TT A sparklingly radical singer-songwriter with a mordant wit and a fine line in tunes.
Marmaduke Dando is the pioneer of London’s series of ‘Power Down’ electricity-free, open air gigs, which have attracted a growing cult following.

In the words of Paul: "On top of the music we are working to arrange a storyteller and a reader of Uncivilised verse and prose. On top of all this will be the chance to hear us explain more about the Dark Mountain project, grab a manifesto, talk to intriguing people around a blazing fire, and watch the sun set over the river."

The show is at the ISIS in oxford and starts from around 7pm on Friday 17th July. Would love you to come down if you can.

‘The beauty of modern....
Man is not in the persons but in the....
Disastrous rhythm, the heavy and mobile masses, the dance of the....
Dream-led masses down the dark mountain.’....
The Dark Mountain Project

---------------

Thanks for continuing to support me and for showing an interest in some of the things I'm involved without outside of making music. I know sometimes it might all seem a bit too much or a bit heavy.

All the people involved with these events are lovely people who share a passion for compassion (maybe I'll coin that phrase) and want to see positive change within our nation and our world. I am proud to stand along side them, maybe we won't see change overnight and it certainly won't happen as a result of our singular actions, but we all feel it important to continue fighting until the seeds of change germinate. (A good example of this would be the continued growth in the fair trade movement.) I have never believed in shoving things down peoples throats (and I apologise if you feel that way) but I would like to extend these invitations to you all.

Whether you're with us this weekend or not, have a fantastic time and lets keep our fingers crossed for some sun.

Take Care

Sam

Ps. I'm on twitter far too much. If you want to listen to me talk in circles about nothing and everything please join me at www.twitter.com/forgetcape :)
