the following was inspired dialogue sent to a fellow artist ..from time to time , i need to revisit my reasons. dont we all....? well we should.

there are times when i go through ferocious doubt about the importance of being a painter in a collapsing world.a world where masturbating your aesthetic skills and talents in front the world for validation cant possibly result in any evolution for anything or anyone but your own ego. then im reminded....on a local sence...doing what we do in striving towards mastery artistically...inspires people communally to create their own realities in any way they can. it reminds them of that ability to create something from nothing...no matther what the painting might look like or discuss...it is symbolic to a power givin to us all..at all times...as artists we are living symbols ..representing creation, action...visible product, visible tangible change. we are here working in a realm, between the divine and the human attempting to communicate to both simultaneously and to translate dialogue from one to the other. thats if you are a born artist. not if you are following the trends for props from scene to scene.
in the latter sence...all the importance...all the reminders, all the growth gets lost, the reasons get lost and the lessons and the meanings get forgotten in the scurry of the trend...so then does the value, the worth of the art and the artist in transit. the art becomes then the biblical gold calf ...the statue or icon simply worshipped as a distraction from divinity...{i-phones}the shiny things are given too much props too much attention.{moma}..young kids aspire to be "writters" in a graf scene where more emphasis is credited to a name with no other noble definitions than the persistance of repition...the lure of being noticed and documented as havin been alive. but is it enough to have just lived.. to have painted. ?

it;s what you say with your life as a statement...with your paintings as encouragement to your lifes statement... as dialougue that you most importantly need to have with yourself to grow your understanding of the world and as medicine for the wounds the world inflicts. i think of us as bandaids and brita filters sometimes... take the grit ..make drinkable water..stop the bleeding with an acrylic bandage. im good with that. today...lets see how i feel about it tomorrow.
