"Who is God? How can He be described? God in His state of undifferentiated singularity is pure Superconsciousness and Energy. It is difficult to comprehend anything that is not in someway contained-for example, the way we are contained in our own body. But God in His Supreme State of Being is Not contained; He is beyond time, space, and matter.
This divine Consciousness has no boundries or limitations; he just IS! He is pure consciousness and energy; undividable, immutable, and unchangeable. In this state of Superconsciousness, God also has absolute freedom; what He wills BECOMES. This is what makes God God: The Absolute freedom to manifest, to create. What is manifest in this process of manifestation is nothing other than God Himself- its is His own Consciousness that takes on Shape and Form. HE is what becomes Manifest, it is HE that takes on shape and form in the realm of space and Time- which is ALSO His Manifestation.
Not only does God Create the Universe out of His own Self, but He also becomes the collection of living beings that fills it (you, me everything)...
According to Kashmir Shaivism, this divine consciousness is the essence of Being (the Unmanifest state of the divine) and also that of becoming (the manifest state of the divine, the universe). In other words, that which becomes manifest is itself nothing other than pure consciousness; the phenomenal world of Matter, Shape, and Form is simply congealed or contracted Consciousness. Therefore it is this God of Consciousness that is the nature of all things.
There is Only Consciousness and Nothing else.
Nothing exists that is not Consciousness.
Once this Divine Consciousness becomes contracted or congealed, it loses its Omnipotence; it takes on Worldly characteristics and loses its sense of fullness.
Most important to our understanding of God's play is that He limits His owns Slef so that He becomes contracted...Limited...and essentially powerless. THIS is who YOU and I are, Lord Shiva(anotehr name for God or the Universal Self, as used in Kashmir Shaivism), in His contracted state of Limitation...
Instead of experiencing the entire universe as an expansion of our Self, we have taken on Individuality. This self imposed limitation is the veil of ignorance that keeps Him from recognizing His own Self."
