Peace Folks
Since I wrote the "open letter" (attached to this mail) calling for an independent united response to the humanitarian crisis in Darfur, it gives me great pleasure to announce that many have joined the effort. Some have offered ideas; others have chosen to get actively involved with the initiative, while some have given a much-valued nod of support. Also I have been introduced to artists in the country who are making great contributions not only to the causes they patronize but also in developing a culture within the arts fraternity of active community involvement.
WHAT WE ARE DOING
The Public Service Announcements
We have decided that a series of Public Service Announcements (PSAs) and a musical concert might be the best way of initiating this effort. The PSAs will feature some of South Africans finest actors, television personalities, radio presenters, musicians and high profiled personalities who have been moved by this issue. We hope to highlight and bring to the fore this humanitarian crisis in the Darfur region of Sudan.
The Concert
This concert will feature some of the country's most talented artists who will be donating their gift and their time to this very worthy cause. Already, the Bassline in Newtown has been donated to this concert and various artists have pledged their involvement in this event, which has been scheduled for the 15th of September.
And that all important question 'WHERE DOES THE MONEY GO?'
We are currently in discussions with the world recognized GIFT OF THE GIVERS (www.giftofthegivers.co.za/. Please feel free to check out some of the great things they are doing) to lock down their involvement in the administering of the money that will be raised. They have their own planes and have developed their own food supplements.
Peace.
