James Buckley Trio has been a band for 2 years. We are primarily a jazz band that plays my original compositions. I play upright bass in this band, as well as write all the music. The other band members are JT Bates and Bryan Nichols. i started playing jazz with Bryan Nichols, the keyboardist, 10 years ago. Around the same time, I started playing with JT in several different groups, including bands at the clown lounge, and a few years later, ended up playing with him in our band Poor Line Condition, and even later played in the band Dubsack with him, playing a frequent thursday night gigs at the Kitty Cat Klub, in Dinkytown, Mpls, MN.
Mystery Palace has been working on music together, both improvised and composed, for about 4 years now. I play electric bass in this band. We write our music by collectively improvising, sculpting our ideas of what the songs should feel and sound like. That is with Joey Van Phillips on drums, who i have played many jazz gigs with over the past 6 years, and Ryan Olcott, who I have been a fan of, and friends with for about 6 years...

Alicia Wiley and I have been performing as a duo, and in a full band in several different clubs in the twin cities, as well as a few festivals in Chicago, IL. She is a great person to play bass for, as well as a great friend and peer.
Chris Thomson, Patrick Harison, ans Sean Carey have been working on a new jazz quartet lately, working on a recording project...
Over the past 5 years, through the Minneapolis Sur Scein music festival, I have had the privilege to play music with bands consisting of European jazz musicians Noel Akchote, Benoit Delbecq and Pablo Cuerco, as well as my trio with Bryan Nichols and JT Bates. All the groups have a unique sound and idea. A really great opportunity!
Willy Wisely in 2004 had me as his bassist for a summer tour, as well as some local gigs in the twin cities.
I met Ed Harcourt through Mandy Cox in 2002. Mandy at the time was a Caroline distribution representative. We met at the Bryan Lake Bowl the night before his concert at the ascot room, in Minneapolis, MN. He asked me if I would join him on bass for his show. It was great!
I got a chance to play bass at the first avenue main room with Daniel Johnston. Robert Skoro got me on this gig. It was really fun learning all that music in a week. A great opportunity!
