got away for the week of thanksgiving. while in ny, i was getting text messages about how chicken george was blowing up the spot at the flat for rocksteady mondays! ofcourse he did!...

on tuesday night, i had dinner at hea, on e 13th (dj fauzi played some choice selections in the lounge) with nickodemus, before heading to apt to check out the weekly raw fusion party. upstairs, element was playing some really raw funk (complete with horns)!...

downstairs, daz-i-kue was doing a killer set. i spotted dj spinna and chatted with him a bit: wbai (kpft's sister station in ny), maroons (my new ep's topic), panama (where he's from and how it relates to suriname), aloe blacc (also from panama), "days like these" (the classic track he remixed that won't leave my crate)... 5 minutes later daz drops "days like these"...

nickodemus and i left round 2ish, satisfied, musically, feeling good about the vibes we absorbed.

btw, nick gave me a quick preview of a brand spanking new track featuring an indian female vocalist...hot! he wants to work on it more... in my humble opinion: it's done, press on wax, send a copy to yours truly!

on wednesday i looked up dj sabo at turntable lab, caught up on the latest, found some recommended vinyl, and laid plans for sabo's debut in houston in january 2009, to celebrate the remix he did on the new ep (to be released in december '08). he's genuinely stoked about it and let me in on a secret: this is the first remix he's done that is actually being released... he did do some before, but he needed to put those out on his own... that got me stoked even more!

cruised on further to etherea (another record store), where i found the original mc solaar debut album (i had never seen that before)... had a long convo with brion, who works there, and (surprise, surprise!) is a fellow dj... ofcourse the topic covered the spectrum, but what always takes precedent: the discussion of serrato vs vinyl or cds (he's a cd dj)...

off to whole foods on houston (that's "how-sten"), where i found a wok, so i can prepare my cod properly on thursday! happy thanksgiving!
