Hello there one and all, So yes, here we are then, it's time for another single. Happily, the lovely Elefant records, based in Madrid, are putting this one out, and it is a pleasure to be in such fine company, (they were responsible for the last Au Revoir Simone single, and Camera Obscura's album to name but a few.) Its going to be all shiny and colourful and lovely, so definitely a nice little object to get one's hands on! This is a single of S's, and the B-side, Static Saturday is something i made myself, and comes from all that time i spent holed up in my room. Therefore it is full of glitches and scratches, and all of those happy accidents which i can't help but covet. Also, excitingly, i think we are going to making our first video for it in the next few weeks, so there is much to be done! The record is tantalisingly near being finished, I am awaiting dear old Lee Baker to return from a music crusade of the states, and then the whole thing can be tied up with ribbons and bows. I have finally got it together and decided upon a title for the thing, 'Without Why'. This comes from an Angelus Silesius poem, written in the mid 1600s.. Silesius was a fascinating fellow, a mystical poet, physician and all other manner of things, and this particular poem's ideas seemed to fit rather well with many of the attitudes of this album making process...
"....The rose is without why, it blooms because it blooms, It pays no attention to itself, asks not whether it is seen...." I'll try and find a link to the whole poem at some point, it's pretty great..
A couple of weeks ago me and the band went to record our session at Maida Vale for Huw Stephens. This, as you can imagine, was a real hoot, and it was brilliant to have a chance to go back there again after what seems like a lifetime with The PIpettes. We recorded four tracks, Start/Stop/Synchro, May Holiday, Find Me Out and Another Version of Pop Song, and i think it went really well, so as soon as i know when its being broadcast i'll let you all know.
We have a few gigs coming up over the next few weeks, and are in the process of putting together some dates for around the single, so it would be great to see some of you there!
Finally things i have been enjoying recently: The Horrors new single. I never thought i would say this, but i think it is one of the best things I've heard in yonks, (the amazing Jeff Barrow from Portishead obviously has something to do with it,) and yes there are loads of references, but still, what a brilliantly bold move in this day and age, to put out a single lasting nearly 8 minutes.. Point Counter Point by Aldous Huxley, his fourth novel. I'm only half way through so far, but i can't put it down. The Fall. For some reason i seem to have returned to this band lately, and their records are striking a different, potentially more pertinent chord, with me this time around..Bloody marvellous.
Thats about all for now,
Lots of love, Rose xx
