Right!

So I apologise for being a bit quiet over the summer, everything's been a bit mental the last few weeks.. So! Here's the latest:

I am very pleased to announce that I have a new single, "Fallen Over" coming out on the 23rd of November! I am really happy with the way this one worked out, its been through a number of incarnations, but I think Lee and I finally got there, so that's why it took so long! We're just gonna put it out digitally this time, and all the links for where you can grab it will be up on the myspace... There's some nice artwork to go with it too...

So that's the main bit of news that I'm really excited about. We'll be playing it and two other songs on Marc Riley's show on BBC 6 Music this Wednesday, which is pick of the day in the guardian guide which is nice, so give it a listen.

The last couple of months have mainly been spent finishing the record, which is actually going to have happened by October! I know its been a long old road, but i think that time has really allowed me to establish myself in a natural, organic way, and I'm starting to feel really proud of it as a whole. I've wanted to make sure that every song has reached its full potential and really been investigated fully, and i think we have nearly achieved that. I spent Saturday listening to a wonderful cello player putting some lines down for a couple of my songs which was such a treat, it felt like putting glitter on everything..

Me and the band have been having a lovely time together and have been doing lots of playing and a bit of writing too, which is really exciting. Its great to write with a band again, but in a completely different way to how it was in my last band, there is a lot more room to explore, and i think there could be some exciting stuff in us... We're really looking forward to getting a load of gigs in before the end of the year, obviously i'll keep you posted on all that..

I've also been doing a bit of writing a collaborating for a few other peoples projects, but will talk about that nearer the time...

So that's about the size of it, and i promise to be a bit more talkative over the next months!

I have fallen in love with the American novelist Richard Yates over the summer.. He wrote 'Revolutionary Road' which was recently made into a film, which i haven't read yet, but i thoroughly recommend his collections of short storied, 'Liars in Love' and 'Eleven Kinds of Loneliness' to begin with.. He writes so perceptively about humans, and without ever being sentimental, whilst still being very moving.

I'm struggling to think about what records I've been really into lately, I don't really feel hugely enthusiastic about a lot of the stuff around at the moment, which i feel very bad about, so if anyone has any suggestions please let me know! Been listening to stuff like Deerhunter, quite liked a bit of the XX record, had the The Byrds on a few times weirdly! Oh yeah, have you seen the videos for the new Fever Ray stuff?, (the girl from The Knife). They are amazing, they actually make the music better, which i think is quite rare...

Anyway, must be off,
Lots of love
Rose xx

Thanks for the update, Rose.

Very excited to hear about new stuff coming from you.  I don't doubt your musical evolution will produce more rewarding results.

As for new music suggestions - yes I have been enjoying that Fever Ray as well.

As for recommendations - since you've expressed an interest in what was once termed as "shoegaze" style music in the past (a genre I am a big fan of) - might I recommend bands like Ringo Deathstarr, The Depreciation Guild, The Fleeting Joys and The Mary Onettes.   As for something else with strong female vocals - check out Bridezilla from Australia.  Most of these bands can be found in my top friends here

Looking forward to your continued updates!

Long time since we don..t hear news about you, but anyways, I..m really excited to hear more of you, I listened Fallen Over before on a youtube video, is another wonderful song with a super fantastic beat, your stuff turning better even more obviously, and like always, I will buy your single the next Nov 23, and I will hear your new session the next Wednesday

Recommendations? ehmmmm, can be music in spanish? Javiera Mena of my country, Chile, have lots of lovely bittersweet synthpop songs, she use a keybord like you, check it out...

On English, well, maybe you know about Jens Lekman, if not, the album Night Falls Over Kortedala have 12 lovely perfect indie pop songs, very very recommendable.

Ok Rose, if you like some stuff or don..t, can you let me know? Just for curiosity, hehehe.

Mucho amor ....... ah, hey, oh, very cute artwork for Fallen Over..... OK OK stop to talking. Cuidate mucho, besos.

I wasn't crazy about Fallen Over when I first heard it, but this version is winning me over.  Maybe it's just cause you mentioned him, but I do hear a bit of Deerhunter influence in it.  I'm curious to see how Find Me Out turned out -- I love that song.

The Byrds are a great autumn-time band -- no shame!  Nick Drake is great autumn music too.  2009-wise, I liked the Dirty Projectors album, Neon Indian's Psychic Chasm EP was a lot of fun.  Some I really like some of the lo-fi songs Best Coast has put out (Sun Was High; Up All Night).  I also love that Princeton song, "Calypso Gold."

Unfortunately, I'd would recommend avoiding the Revolutionary Road movie like the plague, SARS, and swine flu combined.  Btw, "Who Knows Where The Time Goes" (the Fairport Convention version) has found its way onto my regular playlist.  Great song, great singer!

Glad to hear that stuff has been happening, even though it didn't seem like it was!

I'd recommend listening to Plugs, they're the only new thing that sounds remotely different this year.
Its electronic but its good. No album as yet though. Try Imaginary Friend

Ah, soon, a Rose Elinor Dougall album in my grubby little mitts, soooon...
Revolutionary Road, the movie, was exceptionally well made and acted.  An emotional sucker-punch, if you will.

What a lovely song, Rose! Congratulations!

I'm really looking forward to your session on BBC 6. I'm sure it'll be great!

And if I can recommend you something, then I'll have to mention Basia Bulat. It's definitely the kind of simple thing that you just forget the world while listening to - www.myspace.com/basiamyspace

Hope you're well! xxx

Just heard your latest BBC session.  As we say in the States, "Great sesh!"  Just kiddin, nobody says that.  Love what you've done with "To The Sea."

Also, I laughed pretty hard at your James riff.  Admittedly, I have one James track on my iTunes, but it was only for a party mix, I swear.

Really true Peter, very very nice version of To The Sea, was the best performance of the three songs that she played that day, sadly this session can..t be downloaded.

Hey Rose, do you like The Pains Of Being Pure At Hearts? a noise, shoegazer band, very similar like early songs of My Bloody Valentine. Yeah, they are fucking great !!!
