Who Gives Kudos:

[10 Sep 2005 | Saturday]
I have the incredibly difficult task of putting into words our trip to the beautiful country of Singapore. In our efforts to take over the world, we’ve taken one small, but important step into the exotic region of South East Asia, which I will now refer to as SEA. Day 1: We arrive from a relatively painless 20 hours of travel are greeted at the airport by the tireless Siew Hoon. Then we meet our wonderful friends Dee and Taryn at the Shangri-La Hotel. We were first acquainted with these lovely ladies in London earlier this year. Dee is just about the coolest record company gal you could ever meet and Taryn…let’s just say we’ve all been dreaming of a midnight tryst with her since our meeting last April. Stopping a clock would be a gross understatement for her. When Big Ben mysteriously stops ticking, you can bet that Taryn is in London, or at least in the UK. Our driver Halim gives us a great little tour of the area and drops us off in Little India. We have an amazing lunch at Muthu Curry and continue to walk for hours through Little India, back towards Orchard Rd, and finally to the hotel. From the Hindu Temples to the overly kind people on the streets, we have fallen in love with Singapore. Later in the evening we have a scheduled dinner with EMI directors from all over SEA. Met so many great people from the Philippines (my peoples!) and India (Erik’s peoples!) just to name a couple. Julius from Malaysia topped the evening off by taking us out for a drink at a local club. We all head to our rooms to deal with jetlag in our own way. Day 2: Jetlag and a full court press baby. It’s an all day press junket with journalists from, Malaysia, Thailand, Taiwan, Korea, and China. We have a short break for soundcheck where we find young Mitch has blown up my pedalboard, a minor panic that is remedied with a trip to a local music store with Siew Hoon. Then it’s on to a 2 hour video shoot with MTV Asia, a short dinner break, another soundcheck, and finally one of our best shows ever at a club called DXO. The band was on fire tonight. Everyone was on stride and I think the audience could feel it too. This was a truly special and sentimental performance for us folks, and it included an encore with Julia. We can only hope that we did well enough to warrant a return trip to this part of the world. Day 3: More press, more jetlag. The morning is filled with TV interviews for the band. Erik and Brett catch an afternoon flight back to Los Angeles as Adam and I continue with more press. For the past few days, we’ve all eaten at The Line, one of the best buffet experiences you’ll ever have. With an equally astounding breakfast, lunch, and dinner, it was tough to leave the hotel. I think we’ll all return a little heavy on the belly. Later that evening we catch a performance by a band from the Philippines called Bamboo. They had a rough start due to technical problems with the sound system but pulled it together by the end. Nice work boys. The showcase reminded me of an unfortunately catastrophic performance showcase of our own in London. Adam and I have many Singapore Slings with our man Hans and we wind down the evening sharing a nightcap with lovely ladies from EMI and MTV keeping us company. Day 4: One more gluttonous breakfast at the line, a quick drink with Dee and Taryn, a goodbye to Hans, Norman, and all the SEA EMI peeps we’ve met on this trip. Siew Hoon and Halim get us to the airport. Adam and I embark on a 17 hour flight home. We are sad but greatly encouraged that the good people we’ve met will do everything in their power to get us back here. Special thanks: Hans – our champion of SEA, thanks for the many Singapore Slings, you are a texting madman Dee – the glue of this whole operation, keepin’ it real and together baby! Taryn – an absolute princess, simply delicious, you work so hard I think you forget how beautiful you are, I’m sure that every artist you meet falls at your feet and Low Millions are no different Caroline – see you at the pool Siew Hoon – come and be our tour manager Jeannie – we’re gonna steal Siew Hoon from you so watch out! Julius – I owe you a beer Matt, Jesmon, Chris – hope to see you soon my Filipino brethren Norman – we’re ready for Asia and we won’t let you down Halim – above and beyond the call of duty driving us around Singapore Shangri-La Hotel – don’t mess with EMI, bitches!! Until next time, Michael P.S. The band has never seen Adam so out of sorts: one of the most common descriptions of Adam is that he is "charming". But this time, finding his trusted "charm" has no effect on a certain regional EMI girl from Hong Kong. Adam (in disguise) lays down drunk (too many singapore slings) hoping to be eaten alive in a local square. Click here for more photos from our Singapore trip.

Adam got incredibly tan in Singapore. And by the looks of it, rather female as well...
