Trinity College Press Release On Thursday the 24th September, as part of Trinity College Dublin's Freshers' Week, the College Historical Society will be hosting an afternoon with musician Damien Rice to raise awareness of the environment while raising money for VDP (Vincent de Paul). The afternoon will begin with students joining Mr Rice and others associated with the event in Dartmouth Square Park, where, at 12:30pm, the occasion will be marked by planting 32 fruit trees. This tree-planting is being co-ordinated by Peter O'Brien of EdenBee as part of an on-going project in the area.At 5pm, well-known environmentalist Gavin Harte, along with Stephen and David Flynn, owners of the Happy Pear Natural Food Market in Greystones, will each talk for a short while about nature and outline some simple proactive steps that people can make to help the environment before the final event of the day, when the College Chapel will play host to Damien Rice and an audience of 400 students. Here the participants will be asked to make a discretionary donation to VDP in lieu of paying for a ticket. This year's Auditor of the College Historical Society, James Walsh, said that he was really looking forward to 'an enjoyable day for some important causes' and that it would no doubt be a great addition to the debating society's 240th session.
