So we've received our first hatemail. Here's the setup.
In order to promote ourselves, as any hardworking band pulling their own weight without the help of a label or a manager should do, we send copies of our demo's and album out to radio stations and zines and such wonderful pieces of media across the nation.
Recently Andy was in contact with a man who goes by M.Obermark at KNON radio, voice of the people, in Dallas. Here's how the conversation began:
Andy wrote:
people at KNON!! we're a band from sanfrancisco called The Fucking Buckaroos (
myspace.com/thefuckinbuckaroos ). we're coming through the dfw area July 17th through 19th, and we're at 1919 Hemphill in Ft Worth on July 18th as well as playing in Denton TBA.
anwho, what do you think about playing some of our music, provided we send it, and helping us promote?? we're also interested in maybe coming on any one of your shows, if you're into that kind of thing.. what do you think? thanks-andy/buckaroos
M. Obermark replied, snidely, but quickly:
I won't even mention your name on air. Keep the demo. Obie from KNON
Now that's understandable, am I right. We all understood.
Andy wrote back: allright, well... thanks
M. Obermark wasn't finished though. He wrote to
us again:
Obermark:
Amigo... did you ever hear of subtlety? Shock value counts for zero here; save shock for pop aimed at 12 year olds. We play honky-tonk and poets and nothing as artless and heavy-handed as y'all's chosen name. I honestly could not mention your name on air without risking a very stiff FCC fine, and I'm frankly stunned that you never thought of that. Obie
So anyways, fuck that guy, fuck that radio station, fuck the FCC, and check yourself. The Fucking Buckaroos live on.
