here are some nuggets of GOLD.
predictions for what the world has in store for us.

+ w/ in 2 decades we will have a detailed understanding of how all the regions of the human brain work.

+ we will have the requisite hardware to emulate human intelligence w/ supercomputers by the end of the decade.

+ we will have effective software models of human intelligence by the mid-2020's.

+ by the end of the 2020's artificial intelligence will be able to pass the Turing Test ( a test devised to distinguish machine intelligence from human/biological intelligence) as in A robot will be able to pass itself off as a BIOLOGICAL HUMAN.

+ having achieved this level of development computers will be able to combine traditional strengths of human intelligence with the strengths of machine intelligence.

+ once machines achieve the ability to design and engineer technology as humans do, only at far higher speeds and capacities, they will access to their own designs and the ability to manipulate them. machines will be able to build themselves free of human interference. essentially evolving themselves.

+ nanotechnology will enable the design of nanobots: robots designed at the molecular level which will have the ability to work inside our bodies in theory reversing human ageing.

+ nanobots will interact with biological neurons to vastly extend human experience by creating virtual reality form within the nervous system !!!!

+ as virtual reality from w/in the nervous system becomes competative with real reality in terms of resolution and believability, our experiences will increasingly take place in virtual environments. second life anyone?

+ in virtual reality we can be a different person both physically and emotionally. In fact, other people ( such as yr girl/boy/friend) will be able to select a different body for you than you might select for yrself.

These are just some thoughts from a Mr. Ray Kurzweil which i've paraphrased.

what do you think? will we become machine hybrids? do you care?
are our mobile phones and growing dependence on social networking sites like this the start of this next phase of human civilization?

well......anyway have a fun friday night everyone. i leave you with these words from old mate Winston Churchill:

"THE FURTHER BACKWARD YOU LOOK< THE FURTHER FORWARD YOU CAN SEE"

Phwoar, all that kind of shit blows my mind! Although I highly doubt they'll make those advances that quickly (if ever)...but yes a virtual reality within our nervous system would be mind fuzzing
"techno-scientific imagination has structured itself for some six hundred years around the concept of disappearance - of the inexorable enactment of a stripping down of the world. techno-scientific solipsism can be seen never to have been anything than a vehicle for hatred, elevated into the destiny of a biosphere whose crime would be to have presented itself to us as such." this is paul virilio, and he is angry.

It's a scary thought . Especially the human againg part .
And yes mobile phone dependancy is the next phase of human civilisation, we shuld really be able to live without them.

What is the difference between a "virtual" world and a "real" world?..
..You might say that a virtual world is "artificial" as it has been created by humans, but how is this any different to the way the "real" world is shaped by us and other organisms? virtual worlds have physical rules and regulations set by the creator just as the real world does.....
....It is simply just another environment, universe, realm, and as soon as it acquires adequate believability, it may as well be "real".....
....A well as this, the human is essentially a machine, with a set of actions and desires that are set by our genes and changed by our environment.....
....We only have two real purposes:....- Survive....- Go to Australia and play music =D....

Imo, the world is an anthropocentric society, and we're advancing far too fast. Granted, the pros for technology are much easier to see (10+ years ago nearly all of us fans would have little to no contact with you guys), but there feels like there's an unnecessary need to advance our overtly accelerated progress, & with that I guess there's a foreboding feeling of consequence ahead for us.
The scary thing is that you're probably right. I'm worried enough about how much control machines have over our life; its so easy for people to monitor you through machines.
On a more serious note, would we end up going to war with the robots, fighting for our world we've built and created over these thousands of years?

Or would we become destitute and regretful of our actions of building and creating this race, and let our planet be taken over as we watch, returning to our previous forms of "cavemen"?

Or would we give up our planet and climb into what would be the equivalent of a much more advanced areoplane and re-build our civilsation on a different planet, providing we would have the right technology to survive?

Or, would the sun burnt out before all of this occurs?

Or will be be underwater and have drowned due to the ever - changing climate and melting polar ice caps?

These are some rhetorical theories I have though of.

The choice is yours.

Nanobots reversing ageing... imagine the market for that bad boy, if its possible someone will crack it, and being the first to do so has to much rideing on it not to invest alot in reseach.

TRUE A.I for so many reasons will be outlawed, the power of free thought with supercomputing power + internet access = bad times. It could theoretically control/hack/delete/read/learn everthing and anything... what isn't connected to the internet even nowadays.

Virtial Reality...haha... maybe if we sorted out the real reality poeple wouldn't need it???? While half the world slaves in factorys making shit in poverty, the other half is coked up to their eye balls on nanobots fufilling every fantasy with ever detail (sick or honourable) they ever wanted forgeting theres a whole world let alone a universe out there......GREAT CAN'..T.. WAIT the end of actual life as we no it.

Or one nano bot get programed to make more nano bots out of anything and they rip apart eveything at a sum atomic level and turn everything on earth in to nanobots... again bad times.

This is a rather negative view, im sure it'll all go smashingly as on the fill side A.I+supercomputer could advance scince further and quicker than we can even imagine and the educational value of virtial reality...field trips with out risk assessment : O!!!

Where it goes/what happens is anyones guess, i just hope we dont fuck it up

x
