Current mood:Elated
I have never been so overwhelmed by a Presidential election or so proud, surprised and optimistic about being a citizen of the United States of America.  After the last 8 years, I didn't know if we had it in us but we did.  Thank you, all of you.

Its funny, I have never felt so moved either. I cried almost through his whole speech. Not necessarily at what he said, just the hope that was re-instilled in me that most of us still care. I too questioned whether we had it in us. I am so thankful that people seem to be waking up.

I know! We cried all the way through his speech, for the same reason. I feel hopeful and proud for the first time in so long that I'd forgotten what those two emotions felt like, particularly when blended.

I lost it when they cut to the celebration in Harlem. This is an important neighborhood in the American scene and I knew I was watching years of struggle come to a head.

My sons are of mixed race and as they grow up, I'll be able to tell them they can be President and for the first time in history, I can point to an example.

I cried and cried, and my husband kept on asking for us to pinch him because he was so jaded from the past 2 elections that he was afraid to believe it was true. I am so thankful and so hopeful and so proud of our country. It's been a long time coming. The past 8 years have been so hard and spirit breaking and soul sucking, and now, finally, I have a true sense of hope for things to change for the better.
We did it! Yes we did!!!

BTW - I missed you!! Glad you are back with us!

Voting felt really good, Winning felt like someone had told my hope it could take off the fireman's helmet, that the fire wasn't out, but it's contained, we shouldn't expect any more explosions. Lovely, lovely feeling to have the final explosion be a glass ceiling going up.

Agreed, although my maybe-I-just-got-used-to-disappointment outlook on life is telling me that it ain't over 'til the Bush/Cheney folk actually relinquish power. And, I agree, the fire isn't out but, finally, we have a hope of putting it out. Someday.

For eight years the circus was in town.

Now it's time to clean up after the elephants....

The real challenge will be to convince the clowns that rode them into town to help out...
