Podfest - April 5th. Micky's review
On Thursday the 5th of April High Rising went down
to London to play the Purple Turtle in the centre of
Camden.
The venue isn't purple though. In fact it was more
black with greasy
walls and yesterdays beer bottles still
uncollected on the tables.
But with a high ceiling, long dance floor, nice sized
stage.
housing massive P.A speakers, this is a good rock
venue that many bands are keen to play.
Four bands were booked in for the Podfest. Spin, The Fins, High Rising, and The Motive. You can watch
the Podfest at http://podfestlive.btpodshow.com
The Motive kicked off the nights proceedings with a
headturning sound and set as the four lads from Brum
attacked their guitars on stage. My favourite song
"Young Offender" brings back memories of drinking cider and a well spent youth.
The band's fiery punk/metal tone is played
at a blistering pace. My face was
melted after a half hour of musical cooking! It was
great.
Next up, us lot, High Rising. You can't really
review yourself but I will anyway. This band is all
about indie rock 'n' roll taking you on a musical voyage from the opening
song "When You Have The Time" at the cutting edge of
hard rock, to the ballad, "She's Not Worthy". And of
course the track that is becoming our signature,
"Problem". Watch this space for news of a digital
release of that track in the summer
The lads from Farnborough, The Fins, took to the
stage with their flagship song a" Piece
of Pie". A top tune with a good video on their
myspace which is worth a butchers. These boys do a
good job of involving the audience and could be
playing at a fest near you this summer.
Spin were the night's headliners for the night and
their quality
is undeniable. The notes of the first song filled
the room."Going Nowhere" was played in
sound check and got applause then, so you can only
imagine the response from the crowd when it was played
live! The lads from Leeds did the rest of us
justice with a brilliant ending to the night.
The event at the Purple Turtle could not have gone
ahead without the dedication, organization and support
of Phil at Podcast....Spooky and of course....Rob the
video man. It was a top night and we look forward to
doing it again soon.
