DELLY RANX HAS seen his career grow in the over ten years he has been in the business of making music. However, according to Delly, the hype in Jamaica has often overshadowed his individual efforts so more emphasis is placed on collaborations with other artistes.
"Mi have more hits by myself than collaborations, but a lot a people nuh know dat because di majority of them (songs) nuh really hit a Jamaica because of the hype, but dem hit abroad," Delly said.
Delly Ranx made reference to songs like Pelpa, Gi Mi Di Weed, Row Mr. Fisherman Row, Mr. Biggs (a song that Delly says he never heard in Jamaica before, but it was big in Europe), Ball It Out, Nuh Gyal Nuh More Dan You, Who Nah Work Wid Wi, Work Roun Dem' and a host of other songs.
However, Delly had to admit that he had quite a few collaborations that hit big on the local scene.
COLLABORATIONS
Some of these collaborations include Headache, with Elephant Man, Weddy Time 1 and 2 with Voice Mail, Pon Di Corner with Mega Banton, What A Gyal Can Wine which featured Rick Rock, Sirene with Beres Hammond, Oh My Love with Atlanta based artiste Stacey Ann, What Yuh Gonna Do which featured New York rapper, Sunny C and he recently collaborated with Maurice in a song called Dancing Time.
According to Delly, collaborations are good in the sense that the song appeals to a much wider audience.
"Yuh si collaboration still, it draw two different set a audience, your fans and whosoever you do the collaboration with, but di topic a di song also mek it big. Yuh haffi mek hit topics. Suh when me an Ele seh 'ice weh wi have it a gi dem headache', people love brag and show off wah dem have, suh dat was a worldwide topic," Delly explained.
RIGHT PLACE, RIGHT TIME
Delly says where his collaborations are concerned, it was not a case of him selecting specific artistes, but rather of them being in the right place at the right time. However, Delly says younger artistes are easier to work with.
"I always enjoy working with the younger artistes because sometimes yuh work wid di big artistes dem and dem harder fi work wid. Di younger artistes dem easier fi deal wid cause dem waan fi get di exposure, but di bigger artistes might not want to promote the song as much cause dem done buss already," Delly said.
Among the new artistes that Delly will be releasing collaborations with are dancehall artiste Angel with the song Certain Type, Freddy McGregor's son Chino with Red Bull and Guinness (the title track for the new rhythm Delly is currently working on) and When We Roll with Mr. Easy.
"My fans know that Delly Ranx always mek good songs, so from the radio man dem an di sound man dem play it right, then everything good," Delly said.
