Five years ago someone very dear to me left this world. He was my cousin and my best friend.
Ever since then, I have wanted to write a song in memory of him. It was over three years before I felt I could start.
He once told me of a dream he had. In that dream he was waking up. His father and his sister were looking at him and smiling. They said, "It's your birthday, Greg... This is your present." And they gestured to the surroundings.
I began writing this song over a year ago. And even though it was almost complete, I just couldn't seem to finish it. It's still not finished. Perhaps it will never really be finished.
But it would have been my cousin's birthday today. So it seems fitting to release this song, this Dark Sea - on his birthday.
It's your birthday Greg. This is your present.
