You know that feeling that you get when you work really hard at something and nobody recognizes your efforts. Thats the feeling that most bands in the Nashville area end up feeling at the end of the day. This is a town overflowing with talent. Some of the best bands in the world exist here in Nashville, TN waiting to be discovered. Yet, there is this stigma that bands here contract like a terminal disease waiting to take its course. Over the past 8yrs or so we have befriended numerous amazing bands that would make the late Lennon smack his mama only to watch as they walk into the sunset. Its a sad plight for bands and artists of this caliber, but the loss is at the hands of the Suits. A & R is comenly translated as "Artist And Repetiore". Maybe it shoud be redefined as "Asses and Referees". This said, not all A&R reps. fit this description, but there is a lack of knowledge of what the public needs in this department on a whole. They could use a bit more insight. In the end, we do this for the love of music. When we sit at our desk jobs answering phone calls, we can only day dream about what it could be like to do this thing called music for a living. So, when you are at CD Warehouse going through the used bin and you pass by "For All The Drifters", "Lume", "Ups And Downs Of Industry", "ide" and many more, consider your band lucky. The music business here in Nashville and around the world can be cruel, but like a junky craving his next bump, we can only look forward to next high we can get from playing on stage. Its who we are. Its what we do. There is no denying our calling. We can only hope others can see it too.
