Current mood:  creative
Category: Music

I've had a strong connection to the music industry since leaving college with a 'National Diploma in Design' - my first job in '60's London was at PYE Records, laying out sleaves and ads for various artists of the time, such as Donovan & The Kinks,  even featuring in The Kinks 'Dead-End Street' music ads: Moving on to become studio manager for DECCA Records, designing and art directing album sleaves etc. for some of the top bands at the time plus most other music genres - Classical, Big-Band, Opera, Jazz & Pop; my favourite re-packaging was for Buddy Holly's complete back catalogue.
In 1969 I joined Alan Aldridge, forming 'Ink Studios', working on prestigious projects like, The Beatles Illustrated Lyrics, Andy Warhol's 'Chelsea Girls' poster and The Who's unpublished album 'Omnibus'.
Since then my illustration career has led me via Talk Talk & others, full-circle back to my first passion, design.
It's tough for new musicians to break in at the moment and hard to get noticed amongst all the competition out there - presentation plays a large part - If you have an album project etc. you would like design input on, please ask, I'm always interested in collaborating with creative people. You can see some recent examples in the 2nd slide-show and in the 'my photos' folders.
Simply get in touch for a free consultation, no obligation -
James
