Hi Yall,
Played an afternoon gig at the airport (thanks Nancy) and scrambled to get to Artz for our monday night regular gig. It was my mandolin player's son's 5th birthday. The place was packed. Like a hip Chucky Cheese (yucky cheese?) We started our set with I Been Working on The Railroad-hahaha

Once again The Cat's Meow graced our guest set!

Just wanted to tell you about my new favorite female vocalist in Austin.
Her name is kat Edmonson.
Slim Richey and The Kat's Meow band includes Slim Richey on guitar and Francie "MeauxJeaux" on upright bass and occasionally, Floyd Domino on the piano.
A fresh, new voice with an old, familiar sound...sounds easy.

Wow - Julie London? - Loved looking at my Dad's records of hers back in the 50's - pretty hot covers for back then - especially the one with her under a covered wagon. Wish he would have kept them now.

I agree - I love hearing Kat sing the old stuff. She's got a refreshing style. Those old tunes have such great changes - course its same as now - there's about .0001% of the stuff that is written that will last.

Just saw that movie Venus - its got Corrine Bailey Rae tracks thru the whole movie. Great movie - Peter Otoole and Vanessa Redgrave are still getting it done. Inspiring. Corrine and that Madeleine Peyroux have got some nice tunes. Maybe pop is starting to have more chords and a discernible melody. ........................ nah!
