Mass
burial are a black metal outfit from Sydney Australia they are a strong
band with major talent and are definitely a band I want to see go
places in the metal world.Their dedication to their music and the scene
in general is beyond reproach and i am pleased to say they are playing
Cerberus and Samhain Hollows 2 for us this year.I had the chance to
catch up with Goran on of the founding members of the band this week
and ask him a few question about the band.
Elicitangel: HOW LONG HAS THE BAND BEEN GOING FOR?
Goran: Mass Burial has been established about a year ago when Alen and I decided to make new unique blend of death and black metal.
Elicitangel: HOW DID YOU COME TO HAVE YOUR NAME?
Goran: We
have always been fascinated with death and malevolence in human nature.
Mass Burial is a ceremony, ritual or just a plain act of funeral for a
large group of people as result of a catastrophic event, massacre or
even genocide. In our music we are touching on the dark forces who are
driving the mankind into mass killings, extinction, torture and self
destructive war for domination. Mass Burial is often mourned by those
who remained thirsting for bloody revenge.
I guess that we are haunted by mass graves, war and genocide because
Alen and I were born and raised in Bosnia, a country where the ghosts
of war are still very much present everywhere.
Elicitangel: HOW MANY MEMBERS ARE IN THE BAND?
Goran: We are four guys.
Elicitangel: WHO ARE THEY AND WHAT ARE THEIR ROLES WITHIN THE BAND?
Goran: Alen
is a founding member and solo guitarist. He has also co-written a
couple of Mass Burial songs. Without him Mass Burial would not exist in
its form.
Ron is our drummer, a very young and talented musician with a lot of perspective. He is our engine, extremely important.
Benny
is our rhythm guitar player. Without him our live performance would by
far not be as powerful as it is now. Benny is also unique character who
is balancing great fun with serious professional approach.
And than there is me, founder and ideologist of Mass Burial. I wrote
most of the music and all of the lyrics. Mass Burial is a band in which
finally I could make all my musical and lyrical dreams come true after
years of compromising with other musicians who had different
perceptions.
Every single band member of Mass Burial is standing with his heart 100% behind all our songs and that is what makes us strong.
Elicitangel: IN YOUR OWN WORDS PLEASE DESCRIBE YOUR SOUND?
Goran: Our sound is meant to inspire fantasies about evil ghosts and morbid
mythology. It simulates an everlasting tension between the world of
light and the descent of eternal darkness, with a pessimistic
perspective.
Elicitangel: WHAT GENRE WOULD YOU SAY YOU ARE?
Goran: Our music is a mixture of death and black metal. Some people call it blackened death metal. I guess that's what it is.
Elicitangel: ARE YOU SIGNED TO A LABEL OR ARE YOU LOOKING TO BE SIGNED?
Goran: We are unsigned and we have not received any reasonable offers yet. As
much as we have fun making music, we are very dedicated and hard
working band. Considering that, we could imagine working together with
a label at some stage.
Elicitangel: DO YOU HAVE ANY OF YOUR WORK RELEASED OR ARE YOU WORKING ON NEW MATERIAL?
Goran: We
are a band on overtaking lane and we are doing things in a slightly
unconventional way. A few of our songs have been published on Myspace.
We have released a promo pack titled "In The Realm Of Death" with three
songs a year ago on request from a European metal blog, but we never
have officially release a demo or EP. Instead we are currently
preparing full album with 8 songs, due to be recorded and released in
the period between September and November this year.
Elicitangel: DO YOU HAVE ANY PERFORMANCES COMING UP SOON?
Goran: We
are playing on 11th of July at Black Belle's Cerberus at Sandringham
Hotel in Newtown. We are also booked for the second instalment of Black
Belle's Samhain Hollows on 31st of October this year. There is ongoing
talks about other gigs and opportunities for us, and we will announce
them on our Myspace when the time is right.
Elicitangel: WHAT WOULD YOU SAY WOULD BE YOUR MAIN INSPIRATIONS FOR YOU MUSICALLY?
Goran: Musically for us main inspirations are other metal bands, but also horror movies and games.
Elicitangel: WHAT ARE YOU MAIN INFLUENCES IN YOUR WORK?
Goran: We are very passioned about metal and we love what we do, but also the
realisation that nothing beats the sense of accomplishment drives us
immensely.
Elicitangel: IF YOU ONLY HAD ONE WORD TO DESCRIBE YOUR BAND WHAT WOULD IT BE??
Goran: Necromantic
