Two men. 75 miles. One car. No petrol.

Alone they battled south through ghost towns and winding roads, overtaken by horses and carriages as they free-wheeled along the A9.

Separated from their convoy they cried for help, but no-one heard. Then suddenly, shining like a mirage in the distance was.... Pitlochry. The only petrol station that was open for miles upon miles of winding Highliand road.

Would they make it? They didn't know. Hell, they didn't have any choice. They drove fearlessly, eyes firmly fixed on the prize, and just as the car used the last drop of petrol, and threatened to draw its last breath, they made it.

Driving round the final bend they heard jubiliant music, and basked in the glory and joy of their reunited compatriots. They had escaped, this time.

Yes, once again this week- and not for the last time this month- we drove up the A9 to North-land for a bunch of gigs. The reason this time, was that we had been very kindly invited to play at the 2009 Loopallu festival. We had a great time, and played to probably the biggest audience we've ever played to. Thanks very much to everyone who came up to see us, to the people of Inverness for their hospitality and to everyone involved with Loopallu for inviting us, and looking after us very well on the day- apologies we had to disappear so quickly to play in Glasgow!

This week we're playing a series of gigs around Scotland, and it would be lovely to see some friendly faces there. You can catch us at:

24th- The Venue, Dumfries
26th- Sneaky Pete's, Edinburgh
27th- Cape, Stirling
29th- Underground, Dundee
1st- Captain's Rest, Glasgow

October is also going to be an incredibly busy month for us here in Wivesland. We will be celebrating the release of our debut single, Hallowe'en, through Instinctive Racoon Records at- shockingly- Hallowe'en at the Research Club in Glasgow. It promises to be a stellar evening, and fancy dress is strongly encouraged. Chris, perhaps foolishly, announced on subcity on sunday (listen again at subcity.org) that the worst dressed would be thrown in our indoor bonfire. Consult photos of last halloween and Chris's cardboard box for ideas for this year.

There will also be some other promotional dates for the single, which you can buy from the 26th of October, announced soon.

Keep the home fires burning.

Haha.. That BP petrol station once saved my skin too! Thank god for pitlochry with its quaint charm and petroleum.

Indoor bonfires?!? Peh, bloody Glaswegian hooligans!
