Saturday, 8/29/09
New Hampshire

Did ya here the one about the Florida band that went on a tour of the NE and got rained out by a tropical storm?!?!?!?!
You can't make this stuff up!
After a late night/early morning in NYC, the phone rang at noon to bring us the news that the big show at Prescott Park in Portsmouth was cancelled due to rain from Tropical Storm Danny. I've never even heard of a tropical storm hitting New Hampshire before.
Luckily, Ben & Paul, our organizers in NH, got quick to work and found a last minute (indoor) venue for The Honkies to play at. A little re-routing brought us to Wolfeboro a day early and the 51 Mill Street Pub. The regular local Saturday night folks were boosted by some last minute calls and a nice crowd settled in for a nonstop two and a half hour set by The Honkies. Thanks to Ben & Paul for saving the day with their quick plan. A dismal day and long drive turned into a fun night capped off by a late night after party in the gazebo behind the Wolfeboro Inn overlooking Lake Winnipesaukee.

The Wolfeboro Inn, New Hampshire

We woke up to a beautiful sunny day, what a difference one day makes-rained out to sunshine in 12 hours.
The day started off with breakfast at Strawberry Fields in downtown Wolfboro which featured the worlds greatest breakfast sandwich, a french toast club (picture eggs, bacon & cheese between slices of fluffy french toast-mmmmm)
Then we were off to a mid-day meet and greet at the Sandy Martin Art Gallery where Tim, Rebecca & Mike played a few acoustic tunes surrounded by musically inspired artwork.

The it was off to the big show for the night under the big white tent behind the Wolfboro Inn. The show was sold out with over 150 tix sold in advance and a standing room only crowd of over 200 in attendance. The band put on a great show and eventually got the listening crowd onto the dance floor for the final couple tunes.
Once again, a late night/early morning after party in the gazebo finished off the long day.

Thanks once again to our New Hampshire hosts, Ben from Prescott Park, and Paul & Debbie Zimmerman. They are the reason why The Nouveaux Honkies ended up in New Hampshire for a great weekend. And thanks to all the new fans and venue employees (especially the staff at the Wolfboro Inn for putting up with our late night shenanigans) who helped make the last week such a great one.

The Bluzpik crew has to return to South FL but TNH will be in the NE for the week rehearsing and having fun in NY.

Next stop:
Charlestown, Rhode Island on 9/4-9/5 for the Rhythm & Roots Festival featuring (in addition to TNH) Hot Tuna, Asleep at the Wheel, Jerry Douglas & many more. Stay tuned to this blog for webcast streaming info if you can't make it to the fest in person.
