We, Saunter, just finished mastering the new album. What does that mean? I didn't even know even though we've done it on our last 2 albums. Now I can share!
I rolled over to The Kitchen Studios in Carrboro, NC. We went through each track one by one while Brent, the head engineer, tweaked and tuned a variety of knobs, dials, framastatts, blatchsmelters, rods, and reels. It was crazy to watch him work as you could see years of experience being channeled through his fingertips, back thru the speakers, and up into his ears. It's definitely a true blend of science and art.
So what did he do? I still don't know, but the tracks sound polished and fit for public consumption. I guess...it's easy to hear when a band's CD sounds like it was recorded in a basement, but you can't exactly put your finger on what makes it sound that way. Recording it right from the start with a good producer is key (Thanks, Mr. Custer!), and then having an expert polish it up (Thanks, Brent!) gives it that undeniably professional sound. No matter how hard you try, you can't polish a turd. YOU WILL ENJOY THIS ALBUM! You have no choice.
CD Release Party should be coming up soon, and keep your ears peeled to 96Rock. Oh yeah.
