Tonight we are greeted in similar fashion to the last. A guy is staring at our van as soon as we get it to the venue. We are confused because we are parked a little bit illegally, and figure he's a security guard. He is on a tricycle thing or 3 wheeled contraption. As we are deciding on how to park, he watches not saying a word. We finally move it to a more appropriate spot and he helps us back in. We are thinking we are in for another night like the last one.
Boise is apparently only a 8 x 5 block city according to one of the locals. The downtown is bordered by the Neurolux on one end and Gusto Bar where we are playing on the other. We wander around and try to figure out a place to eat, which is a pizza place next to a place called the reef, can't remember the name. They have amazing pizza, and beer, and the waitress is nice and grew up in Seattle. A couple there talks to us and we convince them to come to our show, and they later offer us a place to stay in a penthouse! We get to talking and they are very nice. The debate is going on in the background, but we get bored because it is very similar to the last one.
So I see that the band Starfucker from Portland is playing at Neurolux and go talk to them since I saw them in Seattle. They are bummed because their booker didn't set up locals to play with. I hang around there and talk to some of the locals and it is $2 drink night so everyone is in a talkative mood. I realize that it's getting late so I head back to the venue where it is surprisingly packed. And it's $2 drink night there too. Everyone playing tonight has visuals. Nolifur is a one man show that opens which is really unique, and he is backed with two circular screens that have lasers beamed onto them. Then ATTN plays with several keyboards and thick layered sounds that were really good. I am pleasantly surprised at how good they were, and the crowd is big. We play last so we knew people would leave, but we still played to a pretty decent crowd up until the end. We made a good chunk of money this night which was skate night. There is a skate ramp like a tiny half pipe inside the bar, which I foolishly tried at the end of the night causing unnecessary bruises in the morning.
We opt out of staying at the couples penthouse. I missed it, but everyone else figured they were swingers by their flirtatious behavior. So we end up asking ATTN for a place to stay and Eric is kind enough to let us crash on their floor. We are pretty tired, but we talk for a while about tours and what not before falling asleep. Boise was a real surprise to us and I'm sure we'll be back.
