Current mood: blessed Category: Writing and Poetry
April’s QLiterati! will feature the author Toby Johnson, PhD, who’s flying all the way from Texas for the event. In addition to authoring nearly a dozen books, he was also a student, friend and ten-year correspondent with Joseph Campbell, the mythologist and Comparative Religion scholar best known for his aphorism, “Follow your bliss.”
An expert on Gay Spirituality, Toby will read from his books, “Gay Perspective: Things Our [Homo]sexuality Tells Us about the Nature of God and the Universe” as well as his historical romance novel, “Getting Life In Perspective.”
In addition, Toby will discuss the central ideas of gay consciousness, the evolution of religion and myth and how his fiction grows out of the gay-positive ideas he uncovers in his research.
Along with the featured author, half the fun at QLiterati! is listening to emerging authors read during the open mic period. Past favorites include Flaming Chef Jason Zenobia, Jennifer Lanier (aka Bruce the Drag King) and gay erotica author, Kal Cobalt, who thrilled both gay and lesbian audiences alike. Who knows who will show up to read this month?
To sign up for the open mic or be considered as a featured author, please contact Jacob Anderson-Minshall at qliterati@gmail.com or visit myspace.com/QLiterati! Wednesday, April 8th, 2009 7:00-10:00pm Q Center, the NEW location 4115 N Mississippi Ave, Portland (map) FREE
