If you look at life like a poet, seeing beauty in the simplest things, you do not need to go anywhere to find beauty.  You can see that within manure, a flower is waiting to be born.  It is not in the future as an abstract concept; it is there now, in its fullest potential.  Within an acorn lying on the forest floor is a magnificent flowering tree.  If you listen closely, you can feel the tree whisper to you from inside the acorn, with its majestic tranquility.  Within a storm inflicting damage on a community is also the breathtaking beauty of sun squirming its way through the clouds to a new dawn, bringing new energy and a re-creation of what we thought was perfect, but has new perfection to expand upon us.

This potential also works with emotions and relationships.  Within a storm of a relationship where there is deep division and conflict, there is also a great empathy waiting to unfold.  This is because there can be no compassion without understanding, and to find understanding we must experience.  You cannot have empathy for someone's violence without having experienced the urge to lash out yourself.  And it is through empathy, or love, that we transform the world.  Peace does not come from imposing rules of peace; it comes from living peace.  This applies within relationships and activism equally.

The interconnected nature of the universe applies to me in particular in my own journey.  This being is within me:

Feeling the weight of someone's body on top of me, I shut off.  How could this happen?  How can I let this happen?   I shall never trust the world again.  I shall keep kicking until I no longer feel a weight on top of me.  I shall never trust myself again.  I shall never trust the world again.  I hate being a child, for helplessness is the worst of all evils.

This being is also within me:

The child breathes contentedly in utter trust, feeling the warmth and support surrounding me.  I am helpless, but within that helplessness comes the ability to invite help.  Everything I need is here now.  In utter vulnerability, I let the world touch me and the fullness of it brings utter joy.  My helplessness is a gateway to feeling the love around me.  I trust completely.

The two beings are of course one; they are me.  Within the vulnerability of a childlike state is also the ability to be traumatized, and within the ability to be traumatized is the ability to heal, learn empathy, transform the world, and live a life of Love.  Nothing needs to be done to "transform" one into the other; they are both inseparable.  They are me.

In thinking about healing, we usually focus on the loudest voice. The hurt child screams loudest and we rarely hear anything else, so we think that's all there is. We lose awareness of the joyful child that is present in the moment and has never left us. And it is awareness that transforms – not counseling, medication, or even diving into the pain – but simple awareness.  It is through awareness that allaspects of ourselves are reconnected and integrated.  It is how compassion is learned; seeing how interdependent we are.

Whether within one's Self, in relationship, or in society, there is a great interdependency.  The pain cannot be without the joy and compassion.  A pauper cannot exist without the ultra rich.  There would be no destruction of the rainforest without all the world participating in its consumer patterns.  This is not simply the link of cause and effect; it is a deeper connection on the level of being.  You are the environment of the world, you are the disparity of wealth, and you are both the joys and pains that exist in you and without you.  Invite this in; it is the gateway to living a live filled with peace.

how parallel this is to what i was just thinking...i was just expressing that i feel like a flower cut off from air..reflecting on a relationship just ending where everything beauutiful has gotten lost in conflict.. i don't know the way right now in anything that i do... and i feel so bereft and so without a hope of holding a candle up in a dark alley... i need help of some kind right now and i don't know what that would be. i wish i could talk to somehow the object of my former love, who everything has gone awry with.
but i am feeling so empty and hollow of intouchedness that i dont know how i could possibly express something other then the feeling of hollowness..

i feel for you Claudine ..

I too have recently parted from a 9 year relationship ... I feel blessed to have been a part of it and a myriad of emotions like sadness, emptiness, worthlessness to peace and freedom have arisen as i be true to what is here for me in each passing moment ..

know that your freedom lies in the heart of this feeling of hollowness, welcome it to be felt with all your heart, hold a boundless space of love for all that arises as all feelings pass, all thoughts pass, the truth is the awareness that cannot deny that you are here and in the ups and downs of this life it is ever present and unchanging .. these emotions are all aspects of self that just want to be heard and loved ..

know that you will never find anything that provides lasting fullfillment on the outside. the kingdom of heaven is within and when you rest in the truth of your being, this love that you are at your essence all emotions are welcome in your temple and all your relationships will be transformed into holy ones ... namaste

I'm going through a rough time myself. I was fired from my job, I'm very sick - I'm chronically disoriented and in a state of mental fog, walking makes it worse (even 200 feet), I stumble when walking like drunk, and weak. It's been going on close to 2 months now and if anything it's gotten worse - I'm generally incapacitated. And of course, not sure if it'll get better as doctors have no idea. Referred to a neurologist now.

However, this has been a hugely transforming time. The focus has been internal, and my relationships with my family have improved. I'm remembering more of what actually happened in my past, reconnecting with my self. In other words, this is an opportunity and a blessing I'm making use of.

Any painful event has seeds of transformation in it. It helps us focus on any perceptions we have that are not loving - to ourselves or the world.

dont forget to breath

and this too shall pass as the breath
remember that the power is within you to heal you

imagine radiant light to drive away the fog my friend you will soon be shining on too.

the winter is a time to be dormant and rest, if you are like me..and we are ultimatly all the same, hinse the interconnected ness
let the fog make you rest for the wild new growth that will happen in the spring
the dormant seed waits until the right time of the season to grow. look at the earth..weather patterns
it is what it is
and thats all that it is...

I love reading your blogs..
thank you for sharing your thoughts with me
i love you

Have you tried consulting a naturopathic doctor? I was off work for quite a while for high blood pressure and a loud heart murmur (blood pressure was scary high as the one doctor mentioned). The medications were helping some but not enough to bring it down (bp) until I consulted a naturopath. Then the bp went down quite a bit. Hope you get well soon but like with anything else there is a purpose to everything under the sun. There are no accidents in life. Count your blessings! You probably have more than you realize.

Very interesting thoughts!
I'm interested in this part, in particular:

"You can see that within manure, a flower is waiting to be born. It is not in the future as an abstract concept; it is there now, in its fullest potential."

And also:

"This is not simply the link of cause and effect; it is a deeper connection on the level of being."

I think I'm missing something about this level of being. Could you perhaps explain it further?

This is more in the nature of non-duality. (For those into Sanskrit, you can look up Advaita Vedanta). For instance, the greeting "Namaste" literally means that you honor the oneness of all. If you look into Self, you see others, and vice versa.

In other words, separation is an illusion. It's a real enough illusion, but still an illusion. It's real that this is what you perceive, but perception can change at any moment. Surrendering to perceiving from your deepest being leads to seeing the flower in the mature quite literally.

I also am able to see the perspective inwhich the statements that you give concerning your interpretation of not only your surrounding environment, but also of the interaction with other beings in the environments that surround you in each experience that you have. I hope that not only people can take the time to look beyond their own eyes and see through mine, because of understanding and a different view, that I myself will do the same. In this not to agree or disagree, only to see the many different facets of life in all ways of physical, emotional and spiritual. I love all that you speak in your blogs is emotion, logic, experience and interpretation of not only now in the moment, but how that changes the preception of the future. thanks for all that you write.

sweet are the words of unity, understanding the connections of all of you and me. Thank you for your sharing,in this bulletin of your thoughts today. They are of wisdom, lived from learning the way. The way and the path are already here ,so just be. Learning though awareness of this gift of co-creativity in this time is clear. When we live in love and acceptance we become the light for others that shine bright today. Peace in your heart expanding in the light. Shine on my brother in your words for they have great might. The healing in remembering and understanding the pain, helps build awareness in wisdom of the sage. Love is my avatar, to live is my game . Wishing you a wonderful day.
