As physically and intellectually capable and willing as I am, that any homosexual is, the United States will still deny you the right to fight and die for your country. It seems that our country keeps church and state separate until it comes to the issue of homosexuality, and that makes our country hypocritical.

To be completely honest, I've until now never agreed with a homosexual's choice to apply for the Army/Navy (...etc) to defend the country that doesn't respect them, treat them equally or grant them equal rights, opportunities and guarantees as a civilian who's never applied or defended their country. But I do respect them, and will support them in their decision towards equality – and what better way to show homosexuals, closeted or out, are no different than doing exactly what a heterosexual can do.

I hope I have the ability to be apart of the change that our country's long been in need of, or at least bring attention and awareness to this issue locally. I'm making it a goal of mine to make a difference with the 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' policy, I also hope to bring awareness to same sex marriages, gay adoption, same sex parents, and hate crimes towards homosexuals and sexual orientation discrimination.

Even as a closeted homosexual who abided by the 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' policy, the country did not grant the proper respect and privacy that should have been rewarded to Marine Lance Cpl. Matthew Snyder's funeral. Westboro Baptist Church choose to protest the funeral of the gay, deceased soldier who died in vain, and had it not been for a civil suit filed by his dad, they would have walked away free and unpunished. So the United States House and Senate passed the 'Respect for America's Fallen Heroes Act,' which President Bush signed, but all it does it is bans protests within 300 feet of national cemeteries. What an achievement and step towards the future. <-- Sarcasm.

The bible the Westboro Baptist church insist they follow teaches love, and never hate. No where in the constitution does it say (many things, first of all) homosexuals are not allowed to participate in the military, so for the United States to not do something more for his funeral is disgraceful to who he was as a person and the reason he died. As open minded I am and claim to be about lifestyles and beliefs, I have to say they deserve what they preach to the fullest extent.

The 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' Policy does not make any sense. To actually have a law/rule that says a closeted homosexual is more capable of completing his military duties compared to an out-homosexual makes you wonder about the intelligence of the people who favored and passed the Bill. Whether or not they say it, they're still treating Homosexuality as if it is a mental illness, even though in 1992, the World Health Organization declassified its categorization of homosexuality.

If it's not legal to apply for same sex marriage because it's an abomination, the people in charge of the United States are not doing a very good job at keeping this country from looking like a contradiction. How do we defend a country that's main religion didn't even support most of it's citizen's at one point: Women, people of colour, and homosexuals. Bible verses against woman: -(I Timothy 2:11-14) -(Ephesians 5:22-24). Bible verses against people of colour: -(Timothy 6:1-2) -(Leviticus 25:44-46).

So to the women and people of colour who defend Christianity as to why homosexuals should not have all the same rights as everyone else, think about this: This is the religion that kept you down for so long. Are you now going to say you deserve rights more than us, and if so: you've come so far, and fought so hard just to use your abilities meant for equality, for hypocrisy. The bible was against you the same as it is against us. The fact is, our church and state should be separate. People really need to start understanding: What they think being "American" is all about - isn't.

I don't know how black people became the slaves, aka - got the shit end of the deal, but you rebelled against the white man, so you rebelled against god. I am by no means saying I ever agreed with woman below men, slavery, or the depression of people of color but I am saying that you cannot fully agree with the bible as to why homosexuals are sinners and should not be given the same rights, without being hypocrites. America is a contradiction and all the hypocrisy , injustice, and inequality needs to be fixed.

I remember in class one day when I said that the black, gay, and women's civil rights movement were all the same thing and of the same importance. I made so many people mad because as a black man I should consider the black civil rights movement to be greater. I was like I am sure even Martin Luther King Jr. would agree with my statement (that made everyone mad) But he said it best "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere." I don't know how that does not make sense. People have their heads stuck up their ass and only want what is best for them not what is best for the world. People are so selfish. Our generation could easily end all of this, but we are so apathetic, and care only about becoming rich and famous that i don't really see that happening.
I am glad you are making an effort to put a stop to this, but when I take over and lead the world it will be my word and my law and none of this will be an issue =]
