Bruce Foxton and Rick Butler from the iconic British group The Jam rewrote British rock 'n' roll history in 2007 when they re-emerged to celebrate 30 years of The Jam.

Back in the golden days of 1976 The Jam emerged from the tough streets of Woking and on the heels of The Sex Pistols, but alongside The Clash, represented another strand to the, as yet undefined, punk movement. Their embrace of iconic Mod imagery, like the roundel, sharp suits and black and white pointy shoes, led to comparisons with the early Who. Their lyrics spoke of alienation and class war, topics that endeared them to the punk generation at a time of political polarisation. Hits like In The City, This Is The Modern World, Going Underground and Eton Rifles laid a marker for quality and song writing that remains a beacon to this day.

The band split up after 7 huge albums when lead singer Paul Weller decided to go his own way, into the realms of the fringetastic, cricket jumper wearing Style Council.  But in the UK the legacy of The Jam is apparent in nearly every British guitar pop band of the '80s/'90s/00's, from the Smiths to Blur to Hard-Fi.  More than any other group, The Jam kept the tradition of three-minute, hook-driven British guitar pop alive through the '70s and '80s, providing a blueprint for generations of bands to come.

So wake up at the back, put away your text books and push your way down to the front for some over the top moshing in a 70s stylee. Remember those moments in your bedroom when the whole world didn't understand your pain and the only people who really understood the value of a parka were The Jam? Well at Sound Sanctuary we do; and as we dance around wildly in front of the mirror of our memories, mouthing the words to classic hits and styling our hair in a fashionably spikey comb-over we plan on being down the front on Saturday 20th September. That's Entertainment.
