"Statement regarding events at M83's performance at the Wexner Center, Columbus, OH on the 18th July 2009.

I've been thinking about the events that happened at the end of show in Columbus last Saturday. Time and distance has given me the space to realize that my actions were clearly inappropriate. I wish to emphasise that inviting the crowd on stage was in no way calculated but simply a result of being caught up in the intensity of the moment and essentially celebrating what I believe had been a very positive and enjoyable performance for both the band and the audience. In retrospect though I understand why such actions were not the wisest and why the staff at the venue had requested me not to encourage the audience on stage. I sincerely apologize for the way I handled the situation, and in particular for trying to physically interfere with security staff at the venue who I fully accept were only trying to do their job of ensuring proper protection for both the band and members of the audience.

My reactions in the heat of the moment have caused me much regret and once again I offer my sincere apologies to all persons concerned with the show and at the venue. I feel that it is important to issue a public apology as I do not wish my actions to be perceived as in any way as condoning or encouraging aggressive behaviour.

Anthony

What a gentleman you are. We all make ill advised decisions in the heat of the moment but it's rare to see a celebrity apologize once he or she has realized that they made a mistake. That takes courage. I'm proud to be a fan!

fuck safety...if you goto a concert, expect to get hurt, expect to get trampled, expect to get dirty, expect to be deaf coming outta there, that's the way it fucking goes, anyone who thinks otherwise is a fool...

i would have apologized for nothing...everyone at that show was there at their own discretion...it's your own damn fault if u get hurt...

when did personal responsibility go out the fucking window??

I drove 2 1/2 hours to see this show. Very entertaining reaction, and a nicely handled apology. If you are prevented from returning to this Columbus stage Cleveland would love to have you.

..i go to OSU and am so proud to have had M83 play such an earth-shattering set. your apology is definitely cool, but don't feel bad about rocking everyone's fucking faces off!! i will never forget the show--the biggest dance party to ever cross that lame wexner stage. next time go to the Newport across the street where everything flies!..

That's right.. do the polite thing and apologize, knowing full well that it was probably the most excellent feeling ever to have pumped up fans all around you. Know in your heart that bringing the audience up was a-okay. :-)..
....And I wish I was there, damn!!..

your music touches my soul! I hope someday soon I can catch you live! It takes someone of high character to apoligize, then to do so in such a public manner takes ALOT of courage. thank you for the music and for being the real deal! hugs man! take care!

..There is no need for you to regret what you did.  That old man security guard was incredibly aggressive and pushing people over in dangerous way.  I fell off the side onto the soundboard and couldn't believe how the venue (Wexner) handled the situation.

Be sure to come to Cleveland next time.  There are some great venues here that would have no problem with proper rock show.

Although I appreciate you conveying your feelings, we are human and your reaction was natural. As a member of the audience, we were taken aback by the security's intensely negative vibe much before you put a hand on him. I myself wanted to kick this dude and I am not known to be a violent person. This guy was a serious prick, his vibe was totally unnecessary and spewed hatred. It was noticeable the minute he made his presence known. ..
....Thank you for your music, it is life changing and melts my heat every time I listen & thank you for having heart.....

I attended this concert and want to tell you that there is no need to apologize that staff!..
....If they were so concerned with the safety of the people in attendance, or the band, they would not have pushed kids off the front of the stage and back into the crowd, or the floor. Some of the people who made it up on stage were carefully escorted off the back of the stage, but others were aggressively pushed off the 3 foot drop of the front of the stage. They showed no regard for safety in those particular actions.....
....Anthony you're actions were not only justified, but they were relevant.....
....I'd like to see the Wex Arts employees who were not only encouraging aggressive behavior by ..shoving.. and forcefully removing people from the stage send out such a respectful, and mature apology.....
....I have nothing but respect for you and M83 after seeing this show and just wanted to let you know that the front row felt vindicated by your actions towards the combative security.....
....Thanks for an amazing show!..

....Hmmm...I have seen this type of incident happen at an OZZY OSBOURNE concert, and while he meant well at the time...suddenly had 200+ persons onstage, and luckily it was the end of the show....
Just a life lesson...KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!!
