Un nome nuovo (almeno per il grande pubblico) si
affaccia nella scena punkrock italiana: attivi dal 2003 e con un demo
alle spalle, ecco i Nasty Cats, giovane terzetto romano che debutta con
“Friday 17th”, ultima e recentissima uscita della Voodoo Doll Records.
Evidentemente
i ragazzi romani sono cresciuti (come tanti altri) a pane e Green Day e
l’influenza della band di Billy Joe è davvero forte. Questo però non si
traduce in uno scialbo tentativo di riproporre le gesta della band di
Berkley, tutt’altro: il terzetto romano dimostra ottime qualità e i 12
pezzi dell’album sono davvero piacevoli da ascoltare.
Lo stile è
Green Day, non ci sono dubbi (soprattutto quelli pre “Dookie”, ma anche
quelli di “Nimrod”), sia nel modo di comporre, sia nella voce (di cui è
davvero apprezzabile la pronuncia inglese, non si direbbe che abbiamo a
che fare con degli italiani), ma la personalità con cui lo interpretano
non è da tutti i giorni e non è affatto da sprovveduti. Volendo
esagerare, My Queen sarebbe perfetta per “Nimrod”… ok, sto
esagerando, ma ciò non toglie che sia un grandissimo pezzo che non
riesco più a togliermi dalla testa!
E che dire poi della
registrazione? Per il punkrock di questo tipo direi che siamo al limite
della perfezione, con pochi orpelli e la giusta carica di potenza ed
energia. Complimenti davvero!
Album divertente, fresco, solare e con la giusta carica di allegria: da avere!

Brand
new name (just for the masses) on the punkrock italian scene: with 6
years of experience and a demo, here's the Nasty Cats, young roman trio
making his debut in "Friday 17th", latest and super-new Voodoo Doll
Records' release. These guys -like many others- clearly grew up on
bread and Green Day but Billie Joe's band influence, even if
remarkable, is not just a failed attempt to revive Berkeley band's
feats; in fact, the roman trio shows great skills and the 12 album
songs are really pleasing to listen. Green Day style, no doubt about it
(especially the pre-Dookie, but the Nimrod ones too), in composing and
singing (great english pronunciation, you could never tell we're
talkin' about italian guys), but with an unexpected and experienced
personality. Exaggerating, My Queen would be perfect for Nimrod...ok,
no, I'm overdoing, but it's still a great song I can't get outta my
head!
And what about the recording? For this kind of punkrock it's quite perfect: no frills, just power and energy. Congratulations!
Funny, fresh, bright and cheerful: a must-have!
